Report: Panthers/Rams Looking For Osi

In a chilling report highlighted on PFT this morning, Spagnuolo’s Rams and the Peppers-less Panthers are allegedly interested in acquiring Osi Umenyiora from the Giants:

Mort mentioned three teams that could be interested: St. Louis, Carolina, and Miami.  Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News takes it a step further, saying the Rams and Panthers “would love” to make a deal, but the Giants “weren’t even willing to entertain offers” a few weeks ago.

We’ll be very curious to see if that changes this week.  Vaccianiano says the Giants “aren’t actively shopping” Umenyiora, which is the logical approach to take with a sensitive star that is unhappy.

One of the biggest reasons other teams would want Umenyiora is the same reason he would be tough to let go of: The Giants only owe him $10.1 million over the next three years.

Gosh, for a pro bowl callibur DE, that seems like an awfully good deal…

Look – forgive me for being blunt and going off on a rant here,  but dealing Osi for anything is DUMB.  I mean it, it would be a DUMB ASS MOVE!

Here’s why….

he’s a championship winning NY Giant for one that still has the will to win.   He’s a veteran who’s got a lot of gas left in the tank.  When he doubles up with Tuck on the inside, it’s still a killer combination. And the reason the Giants got no push up the middle last year on the D-line rotation was not Osi’s fault…. Barry Cofield anyone?  Canty injured anyone?  Alford injured anyone?

Not to mention the overall lack of deception from the front 7 was because Bill Sheridan “STREAMLINED” the defensive scheme to go with simpler pressure packages.  Ummm…… MAYBE THE REASON SPAG’s SCHEME WORKED SO WELL IS BECAUSE IT WAS COMPLEX!

My goodness gracious people, Osi is not the problem.  He’s part of the solution if you let him be…  When are people going to realize that while Osi could have instead not talked to the press about his grievances last year,  he did have a reason to be upset. We saw the writing on Sheridan’s wall from the beginning when Osi walked out — this year we need to give Fewell the chance to re-ignite the front 4 with Osi as a permanent fixture there.

Instead of unloading him to another team with these frustrations, LET HIM USE IT ON THE FIELD THIS SEASON FOR THE GIANTS!

I really do not understand why so many Giants fans want Osi moved. before his knee injury he was a pro bowl DE with a great pass rush. He tears his acl, which everyone knows is really a 2 year injury, and combined with the horrible Bill Sheridan had “only” 7 sacks.

I will be really upset if they trade him, especially if it means wasting our #15 on a DE. We already have a top DE, his name is Osi!! (And Tuck)

  2. Shai says:

Also, agreed our DT were not getting any push up the middle. Watch SB highlights, osi made several run stops. The Giants-Saints game was on yesterday, and though we got killed, Osi was making plays, including stopping Pierre Thomas at the goal line on 4th down.

  3. CMH says:

Only reason I would consider moving him is if he didn’t want to be here. Team chemistry is hugely important.

Here’s another thought….Is the solution to our “DT problem” that everyone is concerned with already on our roster? Is it Justin Tuck? Didn’t Tuck do most of his damage during the Super Bowl run from the inside? Kiwi and Osi on the ends are fine. Tuck and Canty inside seems pretty strong to me.

Look for an end like Dunlop in the 2nd for depth.

I’m willing to trade Osi and Ross to STL for Ndamukong Suh and they’ll give us our whole entire draft and Ndamu. Im also willing to part ways with Osi only if we get Derrick Morgan at 15 which is most likely not happening, get Morgan and trade Osi for STL 2nd round pick, I think it makes sense because Osi is turning 30 and you have to get rid of your players when you can actually get value for them, unless they’re unquestionably dominate, which Osi is not. Dont get me wrong I love Osi and yeah I think he’ll have a better year but if we can get STL 2nd pick or better you cant beat that especially in this draft.

    • if philly goes on to win a championship this year, then and only then will it be proven that a player over 30 should be traded or released to free agency.

brian dawkins, westbrook, and mcnabb will be watching just as intently as we will be, trust me.

pro bowl caliber defensive ends who also happen to be players over 30, do not need to be released just on general principle.

Ask Michael Strahan his feeling about that if you want to, he’s on twitter these days….

probably would have liked 2 Superbowl rings instead of just the one. c’est la vie

  5. Neal says:

The problem with Osi last year was his constant overrunning his area of responsibility. He rushed up the field and kept no lane discipline. Everyone ran to his side. Even in the Giants Super Bowl year when he went to the pro bowl he had far fewer tackles than either Stahan or Tuck in both the regular season and the playoffs. It’s not all about sacks. That said I wouldn’t rush to trade him.

    • yes, he over pursued and was caught out of position… but then again so was everyone else. and the corners and OLB’s didn’t exactly step up into the lane, or the safety’s for that matter.

there are 11 guys out there that have to adjust for an audible, not just 1.

  6. Jeremy says:

I like Graham he’s a force. Assuming we let Kiwi go after the year is up, or trade him prior to the season. But enough with this trade Osi talk he is literally our best pass rusher.

I see a fast aggressive Defense this year.

Giants 27 colts 17. My first and only score related prediction. Osi will have two sacks in this game.

  7. DJN says:

Said this before — if you can get Hanysworth, get him. I trade Osi for him straight up if the Skins were willing. $s are not an issue this year. Hanysworth and Canty (he’ll return to the force he was in Dallas) in the middle of the D line — nothing gets thru. Lots of talented DEs in the draft. Love Osi, but a move like this changes the entire D. Last, Hanysworth has something to prove and the change in teams would stoke him up.
