Re-boarding the Giant Board.

I just graded Jason Pierre Paul here.

Now it’s time to look ahead to Round Two. A lot of good players fell to Round two becuase a lot of unexpected players got drafted in Round one (Patrick Robinson, Tyson Alualu, Tim Tebow that there are still some players I’d like to have in Round two. So let’s set the board with my top targets for Round two.

Won’t fall that far:

Golden Tate. I’m a big Tate fan. No chance I’d pass him up in Round two (I thought he was fair value in round 1).  Tate is Percy Harvin Deluxe. Tate is Harvin without any character concerns and actual intelligence.

# 1 OT Bruce Campbell.

Might as well. If we’re going Boom or Bust let’s make sure we have two 50/50 excellent players so we have at least one.

I’m just kidding. In all seriousness. I think Campbell is Underrated. And I think he’s a much better football player than he is an athlete (which is saying something becuase he’s a great athlete). I had him as a high first round grade so he’d be a steal at #46.

#2 Taylor Mays S

One time a heavy favorite to go #15 overall to the Giants. Mays would be excellent value at #46. He might not be the greatest cover guy in the draft. But he can really play the run. And another talented guy who works hard. No character concerns. Great value at #46.

#3 DT Brian Price.

Big fan of Brian Price. If the Giants got Brian Price and Jason Pierre Paul it might make their DB’s look better. And this much is for certain on third down they’d have the most pass rushing options in the league. if Fewell is going Tampa 2 Price is a GREAT Fit. as far as purely being a pass rusher goes Price  I don’t think he’s that far being Gerald McCoy. McCoy though is more consistent and a better overall player. Price at 46…great pickk.

# 4 Carlos Dunlap.

Dunlap is a first round player pure and simple. He’s good value at 46. I know fans would jump out a window if the Giants went back to back DE. But he’s a good player. And had 18 sacks over the past two seasons. The Giants won’t draft Dunlap at 46, but he’ll probably be the best player availalbe there.

#5 Jimmy Clausen.

I don’t care. If he’s there at 46 the Giants should draft him. Develop him and package him for a first round pick in two years. Clausen is THE best QB in this class. The Jaguars, Bills, Broncos are all stupid. The Browns. Stupid. They’ll rue the day they passed on Clausen. I hope he falls to 46 (Giants can pick up a first rounder next year?) who knows. Vikings stupid. Tavaris Jackson’s not the answer. Raiders…Stupid.

#5a

WR arrellious Benn. Benn is a more physically talented version of Hakeem Nicks. Nicks was more productive and Nicks has better hands. Benn has better measurables. both are GREAT after the catch.

Maybe the Giants draft Benn and package Barden and Manningham for a 1st rounder next year or something.

#6 Charles Brown.

I was reading a report on Nationalfootballpost about how Brown was going to go in the top 15 (whoops!).  He did not.

But he’s great value at 46. Let’s hope.

#7 Rob Gronkowsi TE.

Grownskowi is perhaps a better all around player than TE Jermaine Gresham. He’s better than Kevin Boss. Be a very good value at 46 overall.

#7a Roger Saffold OT

Some thought of him as a borderline first round pick. I think he’s good value at 46. But not Bruce Campbell value or even Charles Brown.

#8 Daryl Washington.

Can Washington play inisde? Don’t know. Can he play football? Yes. Does he play LB? Yes. Pick him up.

#9 S Nate Allen.

Allen is a fringe first round prospect. We added Grant and Rolle, but Allens’ great value at 46. I think there is now way he makes it past the Eagles, but we’ll see.

#9a NT Terrance Cody

Mammoth body. A two down player in the N.F.L. But if the we have Tuck, Kiwianuka on the inside on third and long with Osi and Pierre paul on the outside (and Sintim blitzing fromt he outside) we could afford a 2nd round pick on a guy we’ll use only the first two downs.

The Giants could have helded out their run game woes with Terrance Mountain Cody. It’s also appropriate value. As my wife is a Bills fan I’ll say this. If the Bill don’t get clausen and pass on Cody they’re dumb.

#10 DE/OLB Sergio Kindle.

Great value at 46. I would have puked if they took him in the first round. 46th overall though is no problem.

# DT Lamarr Houston

I’ve been a BIG Houston supporter for awhile. He’s not Brian Price but he’s good value at 46.  If Not one of the guys above him on the list I want Houston.

S Chad Jones

Good player. There are still a lot of good Safeties left though so like I said in my mock draft, I think the Giants should be targeting S in the third round because I think S will be the best player available there (either Jones/Burnett, ReShad Jones)

Where the Giants might go although I think it might be a slight reach.

Athlete Dexter McCluster

Is he big enough to play in the N.F.L. if he is draft him. If he’s not move on. If Golden Tate is Percy Harvin Deluxe, Dexter McCluster is Percy Harvin light.

CB Chris Cook. Super talented, huge Combo CB/S. Good straight line speed. Fairly productive. Prospect profile is here.

ILB Sean Lee. Mike Francesa loves this guy. If his medicals check out solid value. But I think he was a little slower last year than he was the years before. Talented, I think 3rd round is great value. 2nd is unspectacular and people would get off the ledge if they got a MLB here.

Brandon Spikes.

Dreadful pre-draft workouts, good football player. If we had Sintin, Spikes at two linebacker spots it might be hard to run on us (maybe not pass on us though).

LB Navorro Bowman.

Maybe even better than Sean Lee. Probably more of an Outside linebacker though.

LB Jamar Chaney

DT/NT Linval Joseph.

Another interior linemen who is “boom or bust”.

What do you guys think and who are you targeting in round two.

  4. Kipers 2nd round remock

    St. Louis Rams
Arrelious Benn, WR, IllinoisThe Marvin Harrison comparisons are legit, and Benn brings added physicality.

    Minnesota Vikings (from DET)
Taylor Mays, S, USCGifted physical talent; Clausen is an option, but no sure thing.

    Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Golden Tate, WR, Notre DameThe Bucs still need a WR, and Tate is a great option.

    Kansas City Chiefs
Jimmy Clausen, QB, Notre DameClausen falls, but this is a hunch pick.

    Philadelphia Eagles (from WAS)
Major Wright, S, FloridaThe Eagles still need a safety, and Wright makes sense.

Cleveland BrownsColt McCoy, QB, TexasHolmgren gets his man, without having to trade up. Oakland RaidersRodger Saffold, OT, IndianaThe pick makes a lot of sense, which doesn’t always compute in Oakland. Miami Dolphins (from SEA via SDG)Sergio Kindle, OLB, TexasThere was a belief Miami could land Kindle at No. 12. Good deal here. Buffalo BillsCharles Brown, OT, USCAssuming Buffalo keeps Spiller, it should get a tackle here. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (from CHI)Chris Cook, CB, VirginiaA slight reach, but Cook is a good player, and they need a CB. Baltimore Ravens (from MIA via DEN)Linval Joseph, DL, East CarolinaAthletic enough to play end in the Ravens’ 3-4. New England Patriots (from JAC)Daryl Washington, LB, TCUFreak athlete with great range, a good fit in Pats’ scheme. Denver BroncosDonald Butler, LB, WashingtonDenver needs an inside ‘backer and Butler is the best option here. New York GiantsBrian Price, DT, UCLAWith Pierre-Paul and Price, the Giants are a better defense. New England Patriots (from TEN)Brandon LaFell, WR, LSULafell can learn from the greats, and could be great himself. Carolina PanthersDezmon Briscoe, WR, KansasBriscoe has simply produced, and has better athleticism than I originally thought. San Francisco 49ersDexter McCluster, RB, Ole MissGreat change of pace from Gore, and behind an improved line. Kansas City Chiefs (from ATL)Bruce Campbell, OT, MarylandA steal if Campbell’s performance catches up with his physical skills. Houston TexansMike Neal, DT, PurdueTexans still need a tackle, and Neal is a fierce competitor inside. Pittsburgh SteelersTaylor Price, WR, OhioAnother possible second-day gem for the Steelers. New England PatriotsRob Gronkowski, TE, ArizonaMore talented than this pick indicates. Brady will love this guy. Cincinnati BengalsEverson Griffen, DE, USCCould go earlier. Talent is there, but so are consistency questions. Philadelphia EaglesJon Asamoah, G, IllinoisSecond-best guard available; a steady, strong player. Green Bay PackersTerrence Cody, DT, AlabamaThey have B.J. Raji, but 3-4 teams can’t pass on value like this. Baltimore RavensEric Decker, WR, MinnesotaThey need more weapons and Decker is a guy who can make plays. Arizona CardinalsMardy Gilyard, WR, CincinnatiWith Anquan Boldin absent, there’s a place to grow in the offense. Dallas CowboysMorgan Burnett, S, Georgia TechDallas still needs a safety, and Burnett fits the bill. Seattle Seahawks (from SDG)Carlos Dunlap, DE, FloridaThey didn’t address DE in Round 1. Dunlap’s an easy choice. New York JetsVladimir Ducasse, OL, MassachusettsMore likely a guard; the Jets can use him for depth. Minnesota VikingsBrandon Ghee, CB, Wake ForestSpeedster could help as Vikes address secondary. Indianapolis ColtsCam Thomas, DT, North CarolinaAdds some muscle up front after the Hughes pick for the edge. New Orleans SaintsNate Allen, S, South FloridaDepth to replace likely departed Darren Sharper.

  5. CMH says:

I like Price as a player but another defensive lineman?

Really think we need to address needs at LB and DB.

When do we cut Rocky B?

  6. Kid Tarheel says:

I hat to be a pain in the ass, but Percy Harvin and Golden Tate couldn’t be different players. Taylor Mays and Bruce Campbell are track athletes/models- not football players. Shoot me in the head if we get either of those two. I thnk Saffold or Brown would look great in Blue. Or Brian Brice would seem to help our D-Line.

Please PLEASE stay away from campbell and mays!!!!!!

  7. Kid Tarheel says:

Also- If Terrance Cody could demand a double team in the NFL, wouldn’t that free up our ends to make more plays? Every team in college had to send 2/3 guys his direction. That could be interesting.

Dexter McCluster would be so much fun to have out there too. You never would have to worry about who’s gonna be the return man and you have to pay attention to him on third downs. That could free up our talented WRs.
