Giants Tried To Trade Cofield; Interested In Henderson?

Lots of defensive tackle news for you. According to Jason La Canfora of NFL Network, the Giants tried to trade Barry Cofield to the Saints for a second day pick. It didn’t end up working out, but I do find it interesting that Cofield was on the block. The drafting of Linval Joseph makes him expendable.

The Giants are also believed to be interested in recently released Jaguars defensive tackle John Henderson. Henderson’s agent spoke with the Giants to “explore options”. The nine year vet had 36 tackles and 3 sacks last year.

Should Cofield be traded? Should the Giants try to sign John Henderson?

Do they still like Rocky? Why??

I like Coefield, he was recovering last year. If we could’ve gotten a 2nd or 3rd round pick during the draft of course i would have made the trade but not its not worth it now unless we end up with a starting MLB which most likely isnt going to happen, I would love to get John Henderson and i would cut Rocky Bernard. Could you imagine our short yardage defense! Canty and Tuck on the outside and Linval and henderson on the inside! Wow, no one is pushing us back!

Trading cofield and releasing rocky would be good in my opinion. Barry wants a big salary cuz he thinks he’s a big time player. Rocky didn’t perform well last even though he was injured. I think if we sign Henderson and do those transactions, we would be set at DT. We will have canty, Joseph, Henderson, Alford, and tuck if needed.

HE THINKS he’s a big time player? Other people seem to think that too, like the Saints, who were willing to give up a 2nd or 3rd round pick for him. And ask ESPN, they did a story about him before this whole CBA mess started, pegging him as one of the top free agents. They also put him on the all restricted free agent team, a small list of players who will be restricted free agents, but are the best at their positions. I don’t know what he thinks, but other people seem to agree that he is a pretty good player.

Too bad they couldn’t have structured a Cofield- Morrison deal w Oakland.

  7. Mike says:

Correction, the Giants didn’t TRY to trade Cofield, the Saints CAME to the Giants to try to GET HIM. He was never on the trading block, but when a team comes to you offering a 2nd or 3rd round pick, unless he’s a franchise player, you listen! Especially since the Giants are going to lose him in free agency next year and get NOTHING for him.

  8. Mike says:

Big mistake drafting DL with the first 2 picks, we have other, more pressing needs.
