Wednesday Thoughts And Musings

I’m sitting here bored at work, so I figured this was the perfect time to bring out some Thoughts and Musings, boring Wednesday style.

-I’m starting to think that, at least in the first season, Linval Joseph will be the best player from the draft class. Jason Pierre-Paul could exceed Joseph, but I’m not sure of his impact Year 1. From all accounts, Joseph is just a mountain of a man, who is hard to move off the ball. The Giants haven’t had a player like that in a long time. I think he could be a starter on Week 1.

-Dallas is starting to worry me. Dez Bryant, character concerns aside, is a hell of a football player, and gives Romo yet another weapon to work with. Their defense isn’t outstanding, but with Miles Austin, Bryant, Felix Jones, Tashard Choice and Marion Barber, the Boys offense could be the best in the league. I think they have to be the favorites to win the division.

-I would like to get an update on the health of Kenny Phillips. Any update. Good or bad. I just want to know how he’s doing.

-If Phillips is healthy, the Giants secondary is awesome. Phillips and Rolle at safety. Webster, Thomas, Ross and Johnson at corner (by the way, doesn’t “Webster, Thomas, Ross and Johnson” sound like a law firm?). That’s 6 really good players. If they stay healthy, they will be fine.

-Speaking of health, is it too much to ask for the Giants to be healthy throughout a season? Is it?

-Eli Manning will contend for the MVP this year. He has great targets–Smith, Nicks, Manningham, Boss–and he’s coming off a great year. I think this could be his year.

-I’d like to see some 3-4 fronts from Perry Fewell this year (speaking of Fewell, I wrote an article about him here). Jason Pierre-Paul can play that rush linebacker spot. So can Osi. So can Kiwanuka. So can Sintim. A lot of options there. Joseph can play nose, and Canty excelled at the 5 technique in Dallas. ¬†Doesn’t have to be all the time, but I think it would be nice to see. Mix it up, don’t be afraid.

-With Jeff Feagles retiring, not only is there a hole at punter, there’s one at holder. It seems like a small position, but it’s quite important. Like long-snapper, it only matters if they mess up. I would think Jim Sorgi will be the holder. But, UDFA QB Dominic Randolph could be an option as well.

-I have no idea who will be the starting middle linebacker, but there’s enough competition to ease my concerns. Jon Goff, Gerris Wilkinson, Phillip Dillard, Micah Johnson, Lee Campbell are all candidates. Someone has to emerge from that group.

-I proposed the idea of a GiantsGab mobile app on the Twitter page, but it’s too expensive. May just do “mobile optimization”.

-There isn’t a better song than “Living My Life”, by Los Lonely Boys. Listen here.

    Canty is 5-tech
    linval is nose

    not opposite

I don’t know! The Cowboys don’t seem like that much more of a threat than last year. There 3 backs have a hard time staying healthy (sound familiar), Bryant doesn’t appear to be that durable (I guess we’ll find out), and they have some O-Line and secondary concerns (inexperienced safeties: we know how badly that can hurt). It’s nothing new for them to be crowned the paper champs but I just have to see it first.

What about the health of the running backs (Jacobs/Bradshaw/Brown)? I think this could be one of the biggest issues facing the team.

Yeah Jeremy, thats what I’m talking about! I really want to see that! I also am pretty sure he’ll do some stand up lineman like he did in Buffalo. It’ll be great because you dont know where people are coming from and hopefully we can get to do that 5-1-5 that we were going to do last year but everyone got hurt, can you imagine from left to right Osi,Kiwanuka,Canty,Linval,Tuck then Boley at LB in the middle and 5 dbs Terrell and Webster at Corner,Deon and Antrel one of them can come up to play slot because they both can play Safety and Corner, and Kenny Phillips out there too! WOW…I found it really interesting that Fewell told Deon Grant that he doesnt have to worry about playing time because he wants to play 3 safeties, i think in definite passing situations we can play 3-4 and put out 6 DB’s with Chad Jones playing like LB hybrid and Clint Sintim rushing off the outside and Boley playing the other LB position, I really think if Fewell can bring his vision to life its going to be crazy because we have so versatility its crazy! Go Giants!!!!!!!!
