Monday Thoughts And Musings

It’s Monday. That means it’s time for Monday Thoughts and Musings.

-From everything I’ve been reading, Guy Whimper is splitting time with Rich Seubert at left guard. That’s very interesting. Whimper is a tackle by training. It also implies that Will Beatty may not be ready for left tackle. The conventional wisdom was that Beatty could take over at left guard, and David Diehl would kick inside to left guard. But, now that Whimper is competing for that spot, Beatty may not be ready. That doesn’t mean he won’t play at right tackle. But, he hasn’t been working with the number one offense at either tackle spot. Could the infusion of youth be Whimper?

-Mathias Kiwanuka is being used at defensive tackle in some packages. Presumably, he’s playing the Justin Tuck role of a few years ago. Guards have trouble with quickness. You put a defensive end on them, and they’ll have a lot of trouble.

-Speaking of Kiwi, he’s given up motorcycles, and his brother Benedict is out of the ICU, after their horrible motorcycle accident, according to Mike Garafolo. I’m glad his brother is doing better, and I think Kiwi made the right decision. I’ve never rode a motorcycle, but to those who do, please wear a helmet!

-Hakeem Nicks will be able to practice next week. The sound you hear is relief.

-Vacation interlude: Spent this past weekend in the Hamptons with friends. I had actually never been, but it was quite relaxing. I should do that more often.

-I think this could be the year Mario Manningham breaks out and becomes a star. From the observations of the beat writers, he’s been running much better routes. Mario tends to round off his routes, and lose focus. If he stays focused, and runs tight routes, he’ll do great. I’ve always said that he’s not that far away from being a superstar. He has all the talent. Just needs to put it together.

-I still think that, at some point, Ramses Barden will make me proud and make me look smart for predicting 10 touchdowns for him. He’s so tall, that he has to be used in the red zone. Just throw it up. Or, throw it across the middle. No corner can jump that high. It’s just impossible. Throw it up, and hope he catches it. It’s better than last year’s red zone offense

-Andre Brown could have a big year. Of course, that all depends on how he comes back from his injury. Still, I think he’s a perfect change of pace back, and could play a Derrick Ward type role in this offense.

-I still think Jon Goff will be the starting middle ‘backer, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see Phillip Dillard replace him by midseason. He has the temperament and the skill set to succeed in this defense.

-The more I think about it, the more I like the Deon Grant signing. No one knows how Kenny Phillips is doing, and Grant is the perfect veteran to be back there. He won’t embarrass you, and he’ll make plays.

-I miss the 90’s interlude:

-Perry Fewell will be one and done. One year as coordinator, and then he’ll be a head coach. Which is actually a good thing. It means that the defense will have done a good job.

-I wouldn’t be surprised to see Travis Beckum be used as a fullback on passing downs. With Kevin Boss entrenched as the starter, Beckum could be used out of the backfield, to take advantage of his pass catching skills. Madison Hedgecock offers nothing in the passing game, so Beckum could be a viable alternative.

-TV interlude: Entourage returns June 27th.

Not disagreeing, in fact I hope Fewell has a year that good. Just wonder why we can’t keep our defensive coordinators like say the Eagles kept Jimmy Johnson, or how long Monte Kiffin stayed with Tampa Bay. Being a Gianst DC seems to assure you coaching or winning a Super Bowl, Landry,Belechick, Fox, and even Spagnulo though he hasn’t won a Super Bowl we surely missed him last year.

Ralph Vacchiano had some great info.

In short, Giants will have some new tricks with their D-line front, mention having a rotation with all that talent

Biggest News: Giants WILL NOT run a Tampa 2, which i figured. Safeties coach labeled Fewell’s defense as a multiple front Defense, said it was far from a Tampa 2 D.

And K.P. is on target, continuing running.

  3. I didn’t think they would run a Tampa 2-either alot of people did.

They don’t have the personnel for a Tampa 2 (fast LB and CB where size doesn’t matter)

I’m glad they are not running a Tampa 2

If you can succeed in New York, you can suceed any where. Mario, smith, nicks, hixon, ramses, boss, Bradshaw those are a lot of weapons for Eli to toy with. This is shaping up to be an entertaining season. If our D will catch up with our offense this team can be special.
