Maybe I’m Not an Idiot After All?

As a “sports writer” (let me have that title, please.) Everything I believe about the NY Giants is made public. Sometimes that receives praise, viritual high fives and kudos, but often there are many people who completely disagree with me and think I’m an idiot.

I can handle that.

But there was one thing I recently said that people said “you’re stupid! Giants would never do that. That Makes no sense do you even watch football?” And I was berated with other statements like that.

What did I say that was so crazy?

I basically said that the person I would try out at the middle linebacker spot this off-season is Clint Sintim.

Well here’s a quote from Perry Fewell about what’s been happening with the Giants so far.

on clint Sintim:

“I thought in yesterday’s practice, he showed us some stuff that Clint Sintim can do. We thought he made leaps and bounds in our practice sessions throughout. He played some middle linebacker for us at times”

HA!

Take that Doubters.

See I DO Watch Football.

What does this say though in all actuality? Not much. Clint Sintim will be playing Strong side linebacker for the NY Giants this fall, but it’s not ludarcious to think he could play MLB in the N.F.L.

This might also show us that the Giants might have no idea what to do with the MLB position.

The other thing I wanted to post about was I read in SN Magazine that half the teams are now playing a 3-4 while the other have play a 4-3.

And SN took the question to the scout based on Leslie Frazier (Minnesota Vikings D coordinator) description of his ideal 4-3 and the scout said the BEST and most ideal 4-3 LDE in the league is Justin Tuck .

Interesting huh? He put Dwight Freeney and the Williams gang from Minnesota in the Dline as well.

But here’s my question…if you had the personnel to play the 4-3 or 3-4 which system would you prefer and why?

the 3-4 is gear’d to stop the pass. a lot of pass rushers, some droping some rushing to create a lot of confusion. i don’t think it’s an every down Defense.

the 4-3 is just fine does everything stops everything.

besides its hard to have a 3-4 nickel package. Cause in my understanding if your a 3-4 Defense you always want your 4 best linebackers on the field. and a nickel package would switch to a 2-4-6 alignment and that is easier to run on.

Unless of course you have 2 nose tackles, but how many teams have that luxary.

Jesse I wouldn’t sweat what most people comment on. Some think they play madden alot and then know the ins and outs of football. The fact is because we got rid of Antonio Pierce and have a relatively young line backing corp, there isn’t any set position for our linebackers. Right now the only guy who you can reasonably say has a lock is Boley. Aside from that I think we should be open to trying new things and putting guys like sintim in the middle because we have a new coordinator and should stay flexible with so many new guys coming in, not to mention a general bad taste in our mouth about the defense what the defense “should have” been last season.

    • Harold True.

I think Sintim is not a lock but has every opportunity in the world to win that spot because if it’s not him it’s probably Chase Blackburn and that’s not something we want to see.

Hopefully that should have been from last year becomes what happens this year; the talent is definitely there on the defense.

You are not an idiot. The Giants use an “over” formation, which is a model that has a lot of moving parts. Jim Herrmann is doing with the LBs what every other Giants coach is doing…moving people around and utilizing their strengths…

Sintim is best as an edge rusher from the LB position, but he has other abilities. He won’t start at MLB, but it is not inconceivable that he will get reps there once the game is in progress.

    • Correct, Mr. Fennelly.

True. I also think that in passing situations that Michael Boley will be seeing a lot of the reps at middle linebacker becuase even though I don’t believe Fewell will play Cover 2 all the time, I think he will use more zone coverage especially on passing downs.

The Bills did very well with their coverage schemes and were able to create a lot of Interceptions.

      Thanks for the comment.

The only reason the 3-4 worked so well was because teams were seeing different looks they weren’t really prepared for. Now with more and more teams switching, offenses with get a hold of what they have to do to beat them (run right at them) and you might see some teams switching back. Also it’s hard to be consistent with a 3-4 once a team picks up on who’s blitzing (a la the AFC championship game).

Jesse, You are an idiot, but not because of your football analysis (which is pretty solid, I think). What are you, like 10 years old? Who writes an “I told you so” post like this? I want to like this blog, but I have to stop reading it because of the amateurish entries like this one that continually pop up. If you want to point out that you made a good point previously, write a story about Sintim being tried out at MLB and include a link to when you said he should be. Don’t write four paragraphs building up to the point where you say “HA! Take that Doubters”. You sound like an eight year old on the playground. Also, try reading your entries through once before you post them. The obvious grammatical errors and misspellings you have in every article could easily be corrected by reading it just once. You want to be considered a sports writer? Stop writing like you are contributing to your elementary school newspaper and maybe you will be one some day.
