Giant Snub – Top 50 NFL Players Ranked

Pete Prisco over at CBS Sports recently ranked the top 50 players in the league.  You can check it out over here – but you won’t find a single NY Giant on the list.   And in fact, there is an extra 20 or so players listed at the bottom of the list that “just missed” the cut… and no Giants are to be found in there either.

Now look, the top 50 NFL players is a hard list to make… you’re going to leave someone out, believe me — and personal preference and young guys that you like the looks of / but aren’t proven yet somehow sneak their way into the ranks. But…

I think not having Chris Snee and Shaun O’Hara up there to represent the Giants is shameful…. particularly when both those guys contributed to one of the greatest Superbowl victories of all time (exaggerated? so what!) and somehow on this list they got bounced out by a rookie that had a movie made about him instead. In fact, the first 5 minutes of the preface to Michael Oher’s movie mentions the Giants more than this article… which is actually about football unlike said movie  (to be fair, the book is a bit better if you want more football talk.)

Oher isn’t the only surprise to make the list either — Steve Hutchinson of the Vikings made the cut.  That reminds me, how was his run blocking by the way?  Maybe Snee of the Giants is the more expedient choice here after all…. he is without a doubt overall one of the best guards in the league and beat out Hutchinson last year as well in overall production.  Here’s the untainted list of the best guards if you want to check it out.

By the way, Justin Tuck played injured the entire year as well and recorded fantastic numbers if that’s what it takes to make the list.

  1. matt schuab over Eli Manning?

Eli Manning is the better QB than Matt Schuab and it’s not even that close, I don’t think.

  2. Dan says:

i’m okay with that. When I look at our roster, I think the Giants don’t have any particular players who are in the top 2-3 at that spot in the NFL, which I think should be part of the criteria for this list.

Agree with Andrew that Chris Snee should be in the talk for one of the top guards, but i think the rest of our good players are top 10 guys, not top 3, so this doesn’t bother me too much.
