Friday Thoughts And Musings

Hello. It’s been awhile. I know. So instead of Monday Thoughts and Musings, let’s do it Friday style. It feels better.

-Surgery went great. Six hours, but that’s what they make anesthesia. The great thing about modern medicine: I was home the next day. About 36 hours from start to finish. That’s impressive. Pain was only bad the first night, and except for being very tired, I feel great. Modern medicine is amazing. Plus, I was lucky enough to have an amazing team of doctors and nurses. I don’t ever want to be in the medical field, but I’m glad that these folks are. They made my stay enjoyable. Well, enjoyable enough to ignore the fact that I had surgery and was in the hospital.

-Anyway, Giants news. Domenik Hixon was waived. If no team claims him, he goes to IR. If a team claims him, he goes to that team. Bad break for a good guy and a good returner. He’ll be missed. They signed Adam Jennings in his stead. Don’t know too much about him. He’s 5’9 and was a first team All-WAC as a kick returner in college at Fresno State. So there’s potential. Is he the opening day kick returner? Who knows. He’ll certainly get a shot and a good one. It all comes down to how he performs in training camp and preseason. Should be interesting.

-Do the linebackers suck? I think suck is a strong word. More like unknown. Look, we do know what Michael Boley can do and when healthy, he’s pretty good. We think we know what Clint Sintim can do: Get after the passer. We have no idea what Jon Goff can do. We’ll know a lot more as the season goes on. But, I think in an aggressive defense, mistakes can be hid by a good pass rush. We have a good pass rush. So, we shall see.

-Besides having an awesome name, Bear Pascoe is going to be pretty good as the blocking tight end. Darcy Johnson had potential, but he was more of a pass catcher who had to block. Pascoe is a blocker who will block. And anytime a team can put someone named Bear on the field, things are looking up.

-I think Kareem McKenzie doesn’t really get talked about, but he was a bit shaky (and hurt) last year. Maybe age, maybe his back issues. But that’s an issue worth watching. Can his back hold up? Can he be a good right tackle? Does Will Beatty step in?

-Training camp can’t come soon enough.

-TV interlude: I’ve been watching a lot of TV shows on DVD during my convalescence, and the main show I’ve been watching is Scrubs. Every season. All 9 of them. I know it’s weird I’m watching a show about a hospital after being in one, but everyone has their quirks. I love the show because it’s hilarious and original. A classic scene:

Who doesn’t love that theme song?

-It would be so much better if LeBron’s “Decision” was to play football. Honestly, 6-8 and runs like he does? He’d be unstoppable. But, I digress.

-I can’t wait to see Antrel Rolle and Kenny Phillips together. Rolle is rangy and fast. Phillips is rangy and fast. Both can really hit. If they stay healthy (and please, let’s hope they do) they can form the best safety tandem in the league. Hands down.

-I think that no matter what happens during the season, this will be Tom Coughlin’s last. I don’t think he’ll be fired. I just have a weird feeling that this is his last year coaching. It’s nothing more than a gut feeling, but it’s something I’ll be keeping an eye on.

I think we overate our own linebackers, I know Boley is good but he was torn apart against Atlanta last year. Its nice to have some young athletic guys with potential, but there are plenty of older solid LB’s that consistently make tackles. The giants might be making a mistake in not getting one as insurance. I agree that we need to get a gamechanger and KNOW that Stintim will make more plays than Danny Clark, but from game to game we are gonna take some bumps. The pass rush could alleviate alot of that, but who really knows.

I LOVE Scrubs, my favorite is the janitor though, he is so random. It is a comedy but has some deep moments and great themes on it every episode, a joy to watch.

Congrats on your surgery going well though.

Scrubs is awesome! But our linebackers aren’t, at least not for now…

The potencial is there with Sintim and Goff, let’s just hope that things workout the same way they did last year with the wide receivers

coughlin gets a lot of flack and is obviously hard headed but i think he is a great coach. many teams would kill for him as their head coach.

I hope to see kenny phillips next to rolle too, but i think whats flown under the radar is that we picked up deon grant at safety, he’s not a big play safety but hes a reliable starter that hasnt missed a game in years, so god forbid phillips doesnt come back 100% i think rolle and grant are great starters
