Training camp is almost here, so we’re starting to hear more about injuries and such. Here are some pre camp news and notes.
-The Giants have waived S Chad Jones, with the intent of placing him on the Non-Football injury. It’s not heartless. It’s so they can use his roster spot, and not lose him. Theoretically, a team could pick him up in the next 24 hours, but I can’t see that happening. With no guarantee that he’s going to play again, he’ll be a Giant.
-To replace Jones on the roster, the Giants picked up defensive end Alex Hall off waivers from the Eagles. Hall, a 7th round pick in 2008 from St. Augustine College for the Cleveland Browns, was traded to Philly last year. The Eagles released because they said he was more of a 3-4 outside linebacker. At 6-2, 250, he’s a bit undersized for defensive end. But that’s where the Giants will play him. He had 3 sacks in 2008, so he has pass rush ability. We’ll see how he looks in camp and in preseason action.
-Kenny Phillips will start camp on the Physically Unable to Perform List, at least for a week. He can come off at anytime. Probably just a bookkeeping move, as Phillips is expected to practice once a day after a week.
-Keith Bulluck (Knee), Osi Umenyiora (hip) and likely Kevin Boss (ankle) and Jay Alford (knee) will be limited to once a day practices.
