Sorgi afraid he won’t make the roster?

Worried that he won’t make the roster, New York Giants quarterback Jim Sorgi is planning to return from a torn capsule in his throwing shoulder two weeks earlier than originally expected.

“In my mind, I feel I’ve got to play against New England,” Sorgi said, per Ralph Vacchiano of the NY Daily News.

NFL teams must have their 53-man roster set by Sept. 4 and head coach Tom Coughlin is still trying to decide who the backup quarterback will be.

“You don’t have much time left until they have to make tough decisions in this league,” the quarterback said. “I’ve seen those decisions go in a player’s favor and not in a player’s favor. I’m just going to try to get out there against New England and hopefully make the decision a little easier on them and hopefully in my favor.”

Meanwhile, starting quarterback Eli Manning returned to practice Wednesday and will play Saturday night in Baltimore against the Ravens.

I think Sorgi, if fully healthy, is a lock to make the roster. As long as his shoulder is ready week one, I don’t think he has anything to worry about, especially after the play of Bomar against the Steelers. If I were the Giants’ I’d advise Sorgi to take his time and be healthy come opening day.

I felt a lot better with Carr as our backup, but I dont blame the Giants for not paying him what SF did, plus he wanted to compete to be the starter. Good thing Eli is iron man, bc if he went down our team would be in a lot of trouble.

i think Bomar can handle the gig.. Lets not forget, that the STeeler game, was his 1st significint playing time in a game as a pro ever.. And he wasen’t horrible, and showed he can use his FT as a weapon some as well.. I liked Bomar from the time we drafted him, and think hes got enough to be a possible future starter in this league, given more devlopment and continued growth

You wouldn’t feel more confident in Sorgi if Eli had to miss a substantial amount of time? Right now, Bomar is not a credible backup, Sorgi is. Down the road, I think Bomar can be a serviceable backup, but right now, he’s not ready.

What has Sorgi done to make you think he is a lock? I know your not referring to all the game footage from Indianapolis.

He’s a more credible backup then Bomar is. He’s serviceable, and if the Colts felt O.K. with Sorgi being the backup for a few years, and Peyton gave his approval, he’s certainly fine to back us up.

He did solid in the Jets’ game when given adequate time.
