Monday’s Thoughts and Musings

The Giants final 53 man roster is out and there were a lot of suprises, I think, for a Tom Coughlin run team.

-The biggest and most shocking cut to me was the cut of former fourth round pick Andre Brown. I was for sure that Brown would be the Giants third running back and that with Darius Reynaud that the Giants would cut both Gartell Johnson and D.J. Ware. The only thing Ican think is that the Giants thought that maybe Brown’s turf toe would scare other teams away (that can be a season long nagging injury)

-Another suprise cut was Derek Hagan. For those of you clamoring about this one from what I’ve read Tom Coughlin believed Hagan’s preformance on gunner duties had diminished this off-season. Also Coughlin believes that with Dodge’s big leg that the Giants need faster gunners to run down with Dodge’s punts.

-It’s exciting that Victor Cruz and Duke Calouhn both made the roster, but now if Manningham or Nicks (or Smith) goes down the WR depth becomes questionable.

-On the Travis Beckum issue. I’ve seen a lot of people complaining why did they keep Beckum and cut Bear Pascoe (a player that is now on the practice squad). Why they would do that. I understand the sentiment for Pascoe he’s a hard worker he blocks and he was actually on the field during training camp. But good blocking tight ends with average receiving skills are a dime a dozen and players with Beckum’s talent and potential are few and far between. Maybe Beckum won’t become anything, but you can’t give up on that talent yet.

-Keeping two tight ends is risky though, but I bet that the Giants plan on using Hedgecock and other OL as Blocking tight ends in short yardage situations.

-I don’t like the Jets. Just a statement.

-I am still nervous about the cornerback depth and I’m surprised the Giants haven’t signed another veteran cornerback yet.

-The Giants added Chad Scott Running back out of LSU as their last practice squad member.

-I’m thinking of doing a new series called “2011 Madden Season Series” where I’ll do a franchise mode and simulate the games and post the results here. Just an idea. We’ll see what happens.

-My season predictons will come soon, but I’m going to say that I feel less confident about the Giants than I did prior to last season when I bought into the hype.

Wonder who’s idea it was to drop Andre Brown I really thought he was going to do things this year. Can’t believe they kept D.J. Ware who is either hurt or fumbling. What’s up with Beatty and Sintim is Jerry Reese losing his touch?

DJ Ware has never been used correctly. When he dislocated his elbow he was returning a kickoff. He’s done everything they’ve asked of him..so it can’t be TC’s doghouse excuse anymore. Every time this guy touches the ball he explodes into the line. He’s a threat every time. He moved the line last game more than I’ve seen Jacobs in the past 2 yrs. Get him into the games or trade him.

it wasn’t surprising about brown, he wasn’t good. he was missing blocks consistently and tc wont have that.

Don’t hate the Jets, Woody Johnson and some of their overly cocky fans sure, but save the hatred for the Eagles/Cowboys/Skins and first things first, the Carolina Panthers.

I agree. I am a Jets and Giants fan.
I think some of the Jets fans are rather obnoxious, and can see how some may not like all the attention Rex Ryan is getting, but I see no reason to hate the Jets. I haven’t seen them act like jerks yet (while member sof the Jets), unlike players on some other teams.

I dislike Eagles fans more than Jets fans, and am not a fan of Dallas either (though they have a very strong team)
