Giants Titans Game Preview

OFFENSE:

The offense was non existent against the Colts. The offensive line looked old, and could not stop Dwight Freeney or Robert Mathis. Eli had no time to throw, and the running game couldn’t get much going.

The Titans don’t have as good of a pass rush, but the line still needs to protect. If given time, Eli can make any throw you need him to, and the receivers have been getting open on a regular basis. He just needs the time.

Ahmad Bradshaw has look pretty good, but he hasn’t been given enough reps. Brandon Jacobs, a week after a reported trade request (That was denied) and a $10,000 fine, needs to come back and prove he belongs. If the Giants two headed rushing machine can get going, good things will happen.

DEFENSE:

The defense was abysmal last week. Atrocious. Awful. Could not stop the run, at all. They were allowing those short, 6 or 7 yard passing plays all game. Their “bend but don’t break defense” broke a lot, and they’ll need to go back to getting pressure on the QB if they want to win games.

The Giants will also have to deal with Chris Johnson, perhaps the best running back in football. He had a bad day against Pittsburgh, and that was because the Steelers loaded up on the run, and dared Vince Young to beat them. He didn’t. He was benched. Giants have to employ the same game plan. The Titans don’t have much of a passing game, and the corners can handle the receivers on the Titans.

SPECIAL TEAMS:

Surprise! Matt Dodge looked pretty good against the Colts. Good punts, good hang time. It was an improvement. He’s not out of the woods yet. Still needs some more of what he did against the Colts. The return game did nothing, and hasn’t done nothing all year.

THE TITANS:

The Titans had a rough game against the Steelers. CJ2K was held to 30 yards rushing. Vince Young was benched and our old friend Kerry Collins filled in. Their offense could do nothing against one of the best defenses in the league. The Titans defense is pretty good–not great, but good. The Giants can negate the passing offense. It’s just not that good. But, they have to keep Johnson in check. If they can, they have a really good chance of winning. If not, it could be a blowout.

PREDICTION:

I think it’ll be close. But, I think that the Giants will follow the Steelers game plan and limit Johnson. FINAL SCORE: Giants 21, Titans 17.
