Steve Smith likely out until December

Espn’s Adam Schefter just reported on Twitter that Giants WR Steve Smith expected to be out until early December because of a pectoral injury.

This is very bad news. With Ramses Barden out for the year, our WR depth is starting to become nothing. Hopefully Jerry Resse pulls something out of his hat and fast.

Not great news but not terrible depending on when in Dec he returns. I dont think anyone really expected him to play this sunday and I think we can slide by the Jags w/o him but we need to be healthy going into the final stretch starting Dec 5th against Wash. I know Cruiz is on IR but from the reports it didnt seem like a season ending injury. Sounded like they did that to make room on the roster and keep him from being awarded off waivers. Thats starting to look like a bad decission.

I think this predicts the release of Reynaud and the signing of Hagan or Kevin Curtis

Hagan can do great things I think if Giving a chance! We need to run the ball more anyway.

  4. Dave says:

agreed. I came to like Hagan. The Hixon injury has really hurt the giants this year.

Does anyone know how they think the Giants will handle this sun. Game w/ the Eagles, after there big win over Washington last night. Vick just seems to just make it happen for the Eagles. Just a question.

They have to pressure Vick and have a safety or LB keep an eye on the scramble. The front 4 def have to bring it and Fewell needs to get creative like he did in the first NY vs. Dallas game. Lots of people just walking around to disguise the blitz package. DE’s dropping into coverage, that sort of thing. You cant let the play develope with Vick. Also they need to realize that Thomas cant play man to man with a stud receiver like Jackson or Dez. They need to give that guy some help or he is going to get beat all damn day like he did last weekend. The D as a whole needs to have a big day.

The offense just needs to find their rhythm with the new linemen and keep doing what they are doing. Use boss and beckem more and Eli needs to go through his WR progressions and not try to force it in to Nicks or Manningham. I’d also like to see Ware get used more. I think he could be that Ward element like NY had a few years ago. The guy runs hard but never gets put in until garbage time. Also, anyone notice what gilbride was doing against Seattle? That screen up the middle to Bradshaw worked quite a few times. Good play to counter the blitz. Creativity and misdirection will be key. PA, Screens, etc.

At the end of the day though I think the NY defense will be the X factor.

Just prepare for lots of screens and Vick to scramble and run thats what they do. If they throw a deep pass Thomas needs to bring his A Game to this one.
