Vikings and Giants Moved to Monday Night Due to Minnesota Snowstorm

The NFL slate will be a little bit different Sunday, as a snowstorm in Minnesota has pushed the game between the Giants-Vikings to Monday night. The decision was handed down by the NFL after the Giants had to spend Saturday in Kansas City.

Minnesota had at least 15 inches of snow and wind gusting over 30 mph. The delay also gives Vikings QB Brett Favre another day to heal, as he continues to try to come back from a shoulder injury suffered last week at home vs Buffalo.

NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said Saturday night that the kickoff time for the game will be 8pm EST, and that the game will only be shown in local markets. The scheduled Monday night game remains the Ravens and Texans from Houston.

The Vikings (5-7) have beaten the Giants (8-4) four straight times. With more than a foot of blowing snow falling in the Twin Cities area throughout Saturday, the Giants’ charter flight was diverted to Kansas City instead. After hanging out in the terminal for a bit, the team then settled in to spend the night there, with an initial plan in place to fly to Minnesota on Sunday morning and make it to the stadium in time for regularly scheduled noon kickoff.

Giants spokesman Pat Hanlon said on Twitter the team “monitored weather all week” and moved up the departure time by 3 1/2 hours Saturday. That didn’t prove to be enough of a head start to make it to Minneapolis before the airport shut down all runways.

Damn!!! I really hope this game gets played on the NFL TICKET? I LIVE IN CALIFORNIA AND I HAVEN’T MISSED A GINATS GAME IN 10 YEARS!!!!! WTF??? DOES ANYONE KNOW???

  2. Jason C. says:

Glad to see the league stepped up and knowing they couldn’t get the game in place moved it to tomorrow. They’ll take a small hit financially, but the safety of all concerned will be preserved. Hopefully they still get into Minnesota some time today so they can at least get their rest going into the game. The good news: Favre gets an extra day to heal, so we might be seeing Old Man Winter and hopefully we can deliver the final blow to his career!!
