Super Bowl Preview

I wish I was previewing a Super Bowl with the Giants in it, but alas, that is not the case. Still, this should be a very good game. Two pretty evenly matched teams, I think. Some key injuries may play a big role. Honestly, I think it comes down to the quarterbacks, but let’s preview it a bit, shall we?

OFFENSE:

I’m a fan of the Packers offense, especially with the way their run game has come together in recent weeks. I think Aaron Rodgers is in the top 3 of quarterbacks right now, if not higher. He’s that good. So accurate, and pretty mobile too. Greg Jennings is a big time┬áreceiver, and I think Donald Driver will show up big. On the Pittsburgh side, you have Big Ben, one of the best crunch time QBs in history. Good running game. Not great. I like Mendenhall, but I much prefer when they had Bettis and Parker a few years back. Hines Ward is clutch, the line is good. The offenses, to me, are pretty even. It comes down to who makes the bigger plays. The Packers like to go vertical, a lot. Will that lead to big plays, or a costly interception? It’s hard to know.

EDGE: PUSH

DEFENSE:

Another close battle. But, with Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey out with a high ankle sprain, BJ Raji could have a HUGE game for the Pack. Huge. That’s a big loss for the Steelers. Pouncey, only a rookie, is already one of the best, if not the best, centers in the game. The Packers will exploit the middle of the line early and often. Plus, you have playmakers like Clay Matthews, Charles Woodson, Tramon Williams, Sam Shields. This is a damn good defense. But, so is the Steelers. I like the Packers line better, but the Steelers linebackers are very good. And, of course, you have Troy Polamalu, the defensive player of the year. He’s a huge difference maker. Still, I favor the Packers slightly because of the Pouncey injury.

EDGE: Packers

COACHING:

I have to give this one to Mike Tomlin. He already has a ring. Going for his second. One of the best coaches in the game. Nothing against Mike McCarthy, who’s a good coach in his own right. Tomlin is just better.

PREDICTION:

This is really tough for me. Very even, on both sides of the ball. I think it comes down to either a big play or a big mistake late. So, really, I’m going on gut. PREDICTION: Packers 14, Steelers 13

I think it’s going to be a great Super Bowl. Except for the halftime show (not happy about the Black Eyed Peas). But, enjoy the game, have fun and let’s hope for a great one!
