Project: Lockout is a new feature on GiantsGab. In it, we will detail what a fan does when their favorite sport is locked out. Through a mix of narratives, first hand accounts, videos and more, we aim to explore the human side of the lockout. This is about what happens to a fan when they are locked out.
Day 4: First impressions
So, it’s Day 4 of lockout. And I’m lost. Seriously. I know it would normally be the offseason. But, I want to hear about football, not lawsuits. I want to see free agency. It’s upsetting. I’ve contemplated growing a lockout beard, but, once I realized that it would be a very, very long time before the lockout is over, and once I realized I didn’t want to look like a caveman, I decided against it.
I don’t know if the owners and the behind the scenes people know what’s going on. Do they know about my friend who owns a bar? He needs the NFL. On Sundays, his place is packed. Drinks are flowing, wings are being served, and he’s making money. It’s great. Now, he loses that Sunday revenue. And it sustains him for a big chunk of the year. 17 Sundays of a full house. Every Sunday for 17 weeks. Plus playoffs. It’s great for business. And now, it’s lost. Sure, he’ll get some of that big revenue for March Madness, for bowl season. But it’s nothing like Sundays during NFL season.
So, that’s where we’re left. People rely on football. People need it to sustain their livelihood. Stadium workers. Bar and restaurant owners. Countless others. Me, I don’t need football. Yes, I write a football blog. But, for monetary purposes, I don’t need football. I love it. But, I don’t need it to sustain myself. I guess I’m lucky. Some people need it.

That’s the guys I’m actually thinking about.
I’m over (maybe) not having football next year, I can live with that.
But those people can’t. I read somewhere that NFL employees’ salaries have been cut down 12%. Can you imagine your salary going down 12% overnight ? All because millionaires and billionaire can’t agree on how to share $9 billion ?
Not only does your friend the bar owner suffer, but I, the chicken wing eater suffers as well. A sad scenario for all chicken wing eating NFL fans.
