Giants 7 Round Mock Draft (Round 4)

The 2011 NFL Draft is just days away, folks. This is the fourth part of a seven series installment in which each pick for each round of the Giants’ will be profiled. I predicted the Giants’ would draft Jason Pierre-Paul, Mitch Petrus and Dennis Landolt (UDFA) last year. I had some wrong, too. I had James Starks going to them in the fourth round, but he didn’t.

With the 114th pick in the 2011 NFL Draft, the New York Giants’ select:

Jaiquawn Jarrett, S, Temple

I watch Jarrett and right away I thought of a rookie like Deon Grant version of last year. A kid who can play in the box right away. One of the best tackling safeties in the draft. Will always wrap up. Not afraid to stick his nose in there, either. Has a great work ethic, and is a great leader, something the Giants’ need more of. Has solid instincts, too. Offers tremendous help on special teams, something that could propel him into the early fourth round. Might not be on the board when the Giants’ draft. Really good intangibles, something the Giants could use more of in the secondary.

One issue he does have is he plays to aggressive at times and can let up the big play. However, at such a young age, that can be tapered down and worked on. Has average speed. However, for a fourth round player, he wouldn’t asked to do more then be quality depth, be a special teams guy and produce there right away. Your not asking Jarrett to start away, nor will he. He could be a tremendous addition to the team, though. Adds toughness right away. I like him, a lot. I think there’s a chance he might not be there. He did visit the Giants, which could show potential interest there. I love how he was an excellent special teams player in college. Will continue to do this in the pros.

The last time the Giants took a safety was in the third round in last years draft when the selected Chad Jones out of LSU.

First Round Pick (19) Mike Pouncey

Second Round Pick (52) Ras-I Dowling

Third Round Pick (83) Mason Foster

Fourth Round Pick (114) Jaiquawn Jarrett

    I like the pick

Think the Giants will look for safety help, if the right player is there. Rolle and Phillips are good (will be better once LB situation is right), Grant was good in spot duty but is a FA. And I dont believe Chad Jones is playing anytime soon, if ever. So selecting a safety definitely makes sense.

Also Think they will look at RB sometime during the draft.

Would like them to select a catch passing back, Jacobs doesnt have good hands, and either does Bradshaw (he’s okay, but i remember a lot of drops)

I trust you and from what you say, he sounds like an excellent 4th pick! I love guys that are not afraid to tackle and especially wrap up! Thats the biggest thing to me when it comes to a football player, that hes not afraid of hitting because sometimes if you can find players that arent afraid of hitting and they have athletism and smart(sounds like alot to have but those are just things that you look for in later round picks and hope you can develop them) enough to understand they’re responsibilities you can teach a player football with some good coaches but a player that cant deal with the collision and is playing scared its a big problem to make anything out of that player.
