What great picks. Im skeptical on Da’Rel Scott because of the fumbling, but overall great draft. A-

  2. Steve B. says:

I think the Giants had one of the best drafts out of any of the teams.

1st pick: Got Prince at 19, should have went top 10. We needed a Corner, and to get possibly a shut down corner is pretty awesome. If we want to go to the Superbowl, we will have to beat teams like dallas, eagles, saints, and packers. All of which are passing teams, that have multiple receiving options. Giants now have 3 very good corners.

2nd: Austin could have been top 15 if he played last year, and was clean off the field. Think he is a good guy, just made some bad mistakes. He automatically makes our secondary better. And I dont think Coefield will be here next year.

3rd: Great offensive Playmaker. Slot, wildcat, returner, a guy who is just electric when the ball is in his hands.

    4th: OL obvious. Great potential

6th: Greg Jones. A guy who and one time was a 1st-2nd round pick, we get in the 6th round! Thats amazing. I think he will compete for middle, sliding Goff to SAM, where he is good against the run.

    6th: S Need, but he is a run stuffer-like Grant-who makes INTs

6th: LB – dont know much about him, probably stood out from watching JPP last year

7th: RB, a guy who there was talks about sneaking into the first. He was the fastest guy at the combine.

Giants needed speed and playmakes, and thats exactly what they got with this draft.

Hope they could get Hynoski (FB) from Undrafted FA, whenever that is. And likewise a Center

I’m shocked that Herzlich was not drafted. How could not one team feel that a 7th round pick was worth a shot on him? If he doesnt make it in the NFL, it won’t be because he didnt try hard enough.

Here’s a good youtube of LB Williams

  5. James says:

Hey Jeremy, just want to say thanks the draft coverage has been absolutely brilliant! Well done!

  6. Eric says:

Jeremy how do you think gift would fair at Sam?

  7. Eric says:

Goff* how do you think Goff would fair at Sam? Stupid iPhone!

    • Steve B. says:

I think Goff is a perfect fit for the SAM position. SAM (Strongside Linebacker) is typically the strongest LB on the team, which out of Goff, Boley, and Greg Jones, I think we can all say Goff is the strongest.

The way I see it as your SAM has to be a good run-defender first. Goff was actually one of the best in the league last year as a run defender. 2nd point is that on passing situations teams bring in a 3rd cornerback to help against the pass, this usually involves taking out the SAM LB.

Last year, we would replace the SAM (Bullock) with a 3rd corner. But also we would replace MIKE (Goff) with a 3rd safety. Its an okay adjustment, but only if you know the team is going to throw. What if they throw on 1st down? Then its a problem.

And the type of defense the Giants run, the Middle LB has to cover a lot of ground (deep middle), Goff couldnt do this, thats why they brought in the 3rd safety (Grant). The SAM has less coverage responsibility.

One could argue that by picking Greg Jones (in the 6th), that was the best pick, because its going to solve a lot of problems on defense.

Jones as the Middle LB will allow Goff to play Strongside, where he is better suited. Jones can stay on the field on 3rd downs, and he is good in zone coverage (which Giants run). Jones is a much better fit to cover the deep middle, and this will allow Antrel Rolle to remain deep in the secondary to make more plays on the ball.

There were a lot of times where Rolle had to play closer to the line of scrimmage, to cover up the weakness of our LB’s coverage skills.

I firmly believe Greg Jones is the type of LBer we need, and is going to flat out make our defense that much better. I am still in shocked he was taken in the 6th round, as a junior he was considered the best inside LB. Had amazing production that year, as a senior that production dip, but still had over 100+ tackles.

Not to mention Greg Jones leadership skills. He could easily be the steal of the draft.

      • Steve B. says:

Oh, and last year we noticed that our corners were playing a lot of zone. I do not think Fewell wanted to do this, but rather he did this to protect the linebackers.

Now with an athletic LB in the Middle, there is more chance for press coverage, which our best corner (Webster) is great at.

good work by you on the draft coverage – thanks

  9. Joe says:

We can target a lot of talent in free agency.
