As The Tiki Turns

We’re going to call this new segment “As The Tiki Turns” because let’s face it, Tiki Barber has become a soap opera. From cheating on his pregnant wife and then leaving her, to a failed broadcast career, to critical comments about the Giants, to returning to the NFL and more, Tiki is like “As The World Turns” but not nearly as addictive.

In this new edition of As The Tiki Turns, Tiki once again makes a very, very dumb comment. When he left his wife for his mistress, Tiki claims that the media backlash forced them to camp out in the attic of agent Mark Lepselter’s house. Said Tiki:

“Lep’s Jewish,” says Barber, “and it was like a reverse Anne Frank thing.”

I’ll try to forget about my religious affiliation for a second here. It’s just an incredibly insensitive thing to say. I’m pretty sure that hiding out with your mistress is not the equivalent to Anne Frank. I’m not sure what a reverse Anne Frank is, but I don’t think it’s this.

These comments, and his previous actions, make one truth crystal clear: Tiki should just keep his mouth shut. He was a great football player and a great Giant. No, he never won a Super Bowl, but the team made the playoffs some years because of his efforts. While Tiki continues to search for his post-football life, it’s clear that whatever he’s tried isn’t working. It’s not a surprise, then, that he’s going back to the thing that made him who he was. Still, even if he plays in the NFL, or whatever he does for the rest of his life, the more ill-advised comments he produces, the further he separates himself him his legacy. When he retired, yeah he ruffled some feathers. But, if he kept his mouth shut, he would have been just fine. Does anybody have a beef with Michael Strahan? No. Tiki tried to position himself as the hard hitting journalist, but let’s face it, he was just a joke. Whether he plays again is not something I’m concerned with. He should just be concerned with his Giants legacy. Because right now, it’s fading. In fact, one or two more comments, and his legacy will be shot.

Reverse Anne Frank would be… Nazi’s cowering in an attic while people march through town looking to murder them.
Sounds like an excellent movie. maybe Spielberg would direct.
