Pro Football Hall of Fame defensive end Andy Robustelli, a 19th-round draft pick who became a seven-time All-Pro, passed away Tuesday, the Stamford Advocate reported. He was 85.
Drafted in 1951 by the Los Angeles Rams out of Arnold College, Robustelli was traded to the New York Giants in 1956. He helped the Giants to six championship games and one NFL title (1956).
He missed just one game during his 14 seasons and his 22 fumble recoveries were an NFL record when he retired after the 1964 season. He won the Bert Bell Award in 1962 as the NFL’s Player of the Year.
The longtime Stamford, Conn., resident was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1971.
