Plax To Eagles Not Necessarily Sure Thing

Pro Football Weekly is reporting that Plaxico Burress becoming an Eagle is not necessarily a done deal. They write:

In checking with sources around the team, the feeling we got was that there was perhaps only lukewarm interest in Burress, who will be freed from prison on Monday and will be a free agent once the lockout is lifted.

But that doesn’t mean the Eagles will jump at the chance to sign Burress. Number one, the team considers its group of pass catchers a real strength.DeSean Jackson and Jeremy Maclin are a top-flight starting duo, and Jason Avant is a clutch third-down receiver working out of the slot. In addition, Riley Cooper holds promise as a big wideout and red-zone option, seeing more time on offense as his rookie season wore on. The top two tight ends, Brent  Celek and Clay Harbor, are athletic and could be productive.

Burress doesn’t exactly fill a spot that the Eagles need, assuming all of these players are at full health this season, and he would not be a special-teams contributor. Certainly, his size and red-zone ability would be welcome, but Burress might not play his best football this season, having been in prison since 2009. It took Vick a year to reacclimate himself to the NFL, after all.

Don’t be shocked if the Eagles pass on Burress and that he ends up elsewhere.

Burress is a luxury for the Eagles. As PFW notes, they have a top flight receiving core, plus good tight ends, plus LeSean McCoy who is good out of the backfield. Would he help? Sure. But the Eagles may want to focus elsewhere. I think the best for Burress right now is the Rams. The connection is there with Steve Spagnuolo, but more than that, Sam Bradford needs targets. He had a very good year with a very mediocre receiving core. Adding Burress to that will help him, and the Rams, a lot.

    Plax to the Rams…

Spags loves ex–over the hill–Giants. And the Rams according to the “pundits” need a number one receiver. Plax fills both of those criteria.

    Thoughts; opinions?

PS: it just occurred to me, maybe he should go to the Panthers. My reasoning being that as a big tall receiver, Plax should help resolve, if not limit, any of their rookie quarterbacks accuracy issues bound to happen frequently throughout the season. Because I would love to see Cam succeed; Cam succeeding will help wash away the embarrassment that is/was Jamarcus Russell.

    (again) Thoughts; opinions?

Good! I always liked Plax and I believe he got a really bad deal. Hopefully I will be able to cheer for him and not hate his guts!!
