Thoughts And Musings

Hello. Let’s muse.

-Full disclosure: I usually write this post on Sunday nights. So when I say Happy Monday, I’m writing it from the future. It’s easier for me to write in on a lazy Sunday than on a busy Monday morning. Through the power of the Internet, I can decide when I want a post to appear. It’s quite cool, and useful. So, Sunday comes and goes. It was lazy. I didn’t do much. Which is always nice. But, I forgot to write T and M. I know. I know. How could I? I am human, but even I was surprised. So am I writing this on Monday? Sort of. I woke up in the middle of the night, panicked that I forgot to write T and M. And then I wrote it and went back to bed. So I apologize if this version sucks, because I’m a little more than half asleep.

-Dedication, ladies and gentleman. Dedication.

-I love the Larry Izzo hire as special teams assistant coach. In his playing days, Izzo was a top special teamer, both with the Patriots and Jets. Always among the best in the league. He will bring that expertise to the Giants, who sorely need an improved special teams.

-My prediction is that Izzo, after a year of apprenticeship,  will take over for Tom Quinn as the special teams coordinator. If things are particularly bad, he might take over mid year. But let’s hope that it will be the season after this one.

-If there is a season. It’s been a little over 100 days, which is staggering. Mostly because 100 days flies by. But, it’s getting down to crunch time. If they want a full season and if they want to start on time, I think the latest they can do a deal is by August 1st. That gives you 5 weeks. 1 week of designated free agency (you can sign after, of course). 2 weeks of camp. 2 weeks of pre season. It’s not ideal. But, it’s obviously better than the alternative.

-If we get past August 1st, you could do it as late as August 10th, cause that gives you a month. But that’s cutting it close. After that, I think it’s going to be really difficult to start the season on time.

-Of course, they could have a shortened season, but I don’t know how that will play. I think the goal is to start the season on time, as it should be.

-It could be worse: This could be the NBA. Looks like their labor talks are going to be much worse.

-Movie interlude: Saw happythankyoumoreplease this weekend. Written, directed and starring Josh Radnor, who is in How I Met Your Mother, which I love. Nice little movie. It’s short, but I liked it.

-I’m kind of expecting a big  year from Travis Beckum, even though I know that the Giants do not know how to use a H-Back (Which, by the way, is not that hard. All you really have to do is get him in space. Get a corner on him. Move him around. The Redskins do it to perfection with Chris Cooley.)

-If the Giants use Cooley as an example, it’s just another weapon for an already pretty potent offense.

Don’t we seem to think EVERY year that Beckum will have a breakout year? It may not be in the cards Fuchs….

    • Jeremy Fuchs says:

A man can hope, right? I still believe in his talent, even if I don’t believe in the coaching staffs ability to use it. Like I said when he was drafted, he reminds me of Dustin Keller. I think that’s how you have to use him, not as a traditional second tight end. But, that’s why I’m just a blogger

You’re being to pessimistic with the lockout. It’ll be done by mid-July.

Beckum- eh. I like him, they just don’t use him. 20 catches, 2 td. Same old.

I know we’ve all spoken about our impending FAs (Bradshaw, Smith, Cofield, Kiwi, Boss,) but are we gonna look for a fullback? Hedgecock is coming off a season long injury, and Pascoe is really a tight end. Reese tried signing Vonta Leach 3 years ago, and now he’s a FA and just blocked for Arian Foster, the #1 rusher last year. La’ron Mcclain is also a FA from the Ravens. I would be psyched if we signed one of those. Mcclain is also a great shohrt yardage runner. Jacobs is not.
