Owners, Players Agree To Deal; Voting Begins Later Today

The owners and players have agreed to a deal to end the labor strife, and the players will vote to end the lockout later today. The league year would start on August 2nd. Here’s what the timeline for player movement looks like:

•  Teams can sign their own free agents and begin talking with other unrestricted free agents Monday afternoon.

• Teams can begin signing unrestricted free agents Tuesday at noon ET but those contracts would not take effect until Aug. 2.

• Teams can begin talking trades Monday afternoon. Any trades would become official on Saturday, July 30.

And here’s a weekly timeline:

• Monday: Teams can sign their own free agents and begin talking with other unrestricted free agents. Teams can also begin talking trades. Any trades would become official Saturday.
• Tuesday: Teams can begin signing unrestricted free agents at noon ET but those contracts would not take effect until next Tuesday.
• Wednesday: Ten teams would report to training camps, begining a staggered schedule.
• Thursday: Ten more teams would report to training camps.
• Friday: Ten more teams would report to training camps.
• Sunday: The Jets and Texans would be the last two teams to report.

All that’s pending is a vote. It’s almost over.
