Breaking News: CB Prince Amukamara Breaks Bone in Foot, Surgery Required

Breaking News: Giants first-round draft pick CB Prince Amukamara has fracture of the 5th metatarsal bone in his left foot. The break, according to sources will require surgery immediately. There is no timetable for his return. This is a crushing blow to the Giants secondary. Look for the Giants to try and resign S Deon Clark, as CB Terrell Thomas will no longer liekly play that third safety role this season as Giants coaches wanted. CB’s Michael Coe and Will Witherspoon will get a chance to step up, now.

For background on the injury, it’s very similar injury to the one that LT William Beatty suffered last season. He missed about 7 weeks but didn’t go on IR. Amukamara had the longest holdout of any rookie this season, and was the last first-round draft selection to sign with his team. Just a few days ago, the Giants lost CB Bruce Johnson to a ruptured Achilles tendon. Holdouts will do this to you, folks.

Looks like the PUP list for him, I still can’t believe they didn’t get some kind of better injury system (similar to the DL in baseball) into that CBA. So we probably won’t get to see him for 6 weeks into the season (at the least), it starts already…

Jason C: Great point. The players did want some sort of new injured reserve or injured list put in the new CBA, but for some reason it didn’t happen. The PUP list, in this case for Prince Amukamara
Will help him out. Let’s say he missed 7 weeks from today. He’d miss the first 3-4 weeks of the regular season. He’d then be able to practice with the team for two weeks and then be activated from the PUP list, which will help him since he’s already behind in learning the system. The Giants thought of Prince as more of a luxury pick then a necessity. They have 3 solid CB’s. They might look to get a veteran for depth, but they need depth a TE, too.

      • Jason C. says:

Agreed 100%, would like to see a veteran added at CB, hopefully bring back Deon Grant at S, and maybe possibly a TE, also Steve Smith still looks up in the air. Fact is, this team is certainly unfinished business at this point, luckily a LOT of teams are.

CB a luxury pick? CB is our most glaring need behind LB the last couple yrs and Punter. We have two solid but far from shutdown CB’s and no depth. I don’t want to hear Ross name until he makes a play.
