11.5 Sacks Last Season

Good thing the Giants drafted Jason Pierre-Paul last year.

Giants sack artist Osi Umenyiora underwent arthroscopic surgery on his knee this morning according to Mike Garafolo of the Newark Star-Ledger.

The pass-rushing menace is likely to be out 3-4 weeks. Coach Tom Coughlin said, ”Hopefully it’ll take less time than the other range, the other extent.”

It’s not too big of a deal for a team like the Giants, who have quality players (Pierre-Paul, Kiwanuka, Tuck) to fill Osi’s shoes during his absence.

Update: A person close to Osi says “it could be 4-6 weeks or longer.”

  1. Big Daddy says:

I don’t think he’ll ever play another down for the giants, just a feeling.

  2. ed says:

I was on his side…not anymore. put him on the ir list for two yrs. lets see who will give an aging star who hasn’t played in two yrs more money.

  3. Chris says:

I hope Kiwi, JPP, and Tuck go nuts the first few games. Disruption plus sacks. Osi sits and looks like a little spoiled brat because he has a boo-boo and realizes he’s not needed.

  4. twerp says:

Osi hasn’t done dick since Strahan left, save for a few ball swats. I think JPP will have a better season anyway.

  5. sam says:

I think this is such a blessing in disguise.like Tuck said letting JPP get this early playing time and let him build his confidence so when Osi is back we’re going to have the nastiest rotation EVER! if JPP can keep building on this and then when Osi comes back I think this is huge for the giants to have Osi and prince coming half way through the season. This team has needed a second half spark for a few years now and this might be it.remember how big it was in 2007 when we got help at the end of the season from some fresh guys. Im definitely not calling superbowl but im saying this might be huge to be getting 2 players like that half way through.remember last year how we looked with kiwanuka and then we lost him, think of this in the opposite way. we’re going to start without osi and then add him into the mix. its how you finish not how you start.
