Giants Bills Halftime Thoughts

Not sure how the game is tied, but we’ll take it. 17-17 going into the half.

Giants started the game with a really nice methodical drive. Jake Ballard was featured. The run game was featured. Thought it could be the start of a nice game.

And then, on the next play by the Bills, Fred Jackson ran 80 yards for a touchdown. Next drive, 60 yard touchdown pass. Giants back 7 has not looked good.

The Giants field goal drive was a nice bounce back, but this is more about the defense, than anything. The big plays are one thing, but it’s the bad tackling, the poor communication, and just the general malaise that’s harming the Giants. Deon Grant is not playing good football. It’s the ripple effect of losing Terrell Thomas and Jon Goff. Thomas  gets hurt, meaning Aaron Ross starts at corner, meaning the Giants don’t use three corners, meaning they use three safeties. But with Goff out, the Giants are using two linebackers most of the time, meaning Antrel Rolle is playing a hybrid linebacker role, meaning Grant is playing in coverage. Not what you would want.

True, the offense has looked good. Ballard looks great. Nicks had a big play. Run game isn’t there yet, especially without Jacobs. You start to realize his importance.Bradshaw has excelled in short yardage situations.

Giants need to shore up the back 7. There was more pressure as the half went on, and that helped.  But if the offense can keep moving the ball, good things will happen.

what the heck kind of pattern was that that Beckum ran on the incomplete? This kid looks like he has no clue.
