Thoughts and Musings

Well that was a heart stopper. But certainly worth it. The Giants showed us what they’re all about.

-That’s a win with a lot of heart. The Giants certainly were not at their best, but it didn’t matter. They pulled that out, and it was huge

-And how great was Eli Manning? Tremendous. Outplayed Brady, for sure. Calm under pressure. Perfect throw to Manningham for the TD. He’s playing MVP type football. Outside of Aaron Rodgers, and maybe Fred Jackson, Eli should be in the top 5 at least. He’s proving his worth.

-Loving Jake Ballard. Kevin Boss who? Just the kind of tough, throwback player that the Giants love.

-Maybe we all overreacted when Boss and Smith left. I certainly did. But, I think it was a fair overreaction. I’m not sure the Giants thought Ballard was going to come through like this. Same thing for Cruz.

-Michael Boley has just been terrific this season. Just terrific.

-Loved how Kiwanuka played.

-Linval Joseph is really coming along. He’s so big, so strong, and he gets a push in the run game. He and Canty, who is also playing well, have been great inside.

-The young’uns showed up today. Paysinger recovered the fumble that was caused by Sash and Herzlich. That’s what you like to see.

-Another reason why pressure is so important. It can neutralize a dangerous attack.

-When do you see that many kickoffs muffed in the same game? A little weird, no?

-Casual Dining interlude: Went to Olive Garden for the first time on Saturday with the girlfriend and friends. They didn’t have them where I lived before I moved. And let me just say: Awful. Seriously. It’s like they said, “Here’s a crap ton of salt, more than is ever necessary, but let’s just add more for the hell of it.” Why does anything ever need that much salt? Are they trying to give me hypertension? Let met tell you, I did NOT feel like family, that’s for sure.

-I think it was huge to start this grueling stretch with a win. They can go out West with their heads held high and face a tough San Fran team.

-I thought Will Beatty had a few blocks that made me think he could be a good player for a long time. Surprising amount of power from him.

-I think JPP is a star. And he’s only in his 2nd year.

-Liked how Jacobs ran downhill today. None of that east-west crap. Only 72 yards, but a nice TD and some nice plays out of the backfield. If he wants that contract, running like this will help.

-I don’t think DJ Ware is ever going to be more than a special teamers. Hate to say it.

-I think on Da’Rel Scott’s one run, you saw a nice bit of burst. Only 5 yards, but the burst is there. I think the Giants would be foolish to keep him off the field. Find ways to get him in space.

-Welcome back, Mr. Barden. Nice to see you make some plays.

-Like I said, this is a huge win. Statement win. The Jints are tough. They are resilient. They have heart. All qualities you want in a playoff team. They’re 6-2. They’re in good position. Just have to avoid the late season meltdown that has, unfortunately, become commonplace lately.

  1. Big Daddy says:

I think at this point BOTH Eli Manning and Jerry Reese have proved themselves to be considered great at their jobs. I don’t want to hear anything more about the trade and other Eli nonsense. And I don’t want to hear Jerry Reese called reach, please just stop thank you….LOL.

-Yes the Giant players are very talented and have that desire to win. Something you can NOT coach up.

-Yes Eli is top 5, but when his career is over and he and Peyton is in the Hall of fame, maybe Eli looks like top 5 of all time, no sorry not that good but top 5 of his era, yes definitely.

    – Ballard is better then Boss, I watched this kid at Ohio state and knew he was good. Soft hands, very smart and knows how to play football. A natural, for a big guy he’s very compact and that was a problem with Boss, he was not in great position once he got the ball. When Ballard gets the ball he looks like a fullback, he doesn’t take punishment he gives it.

    – I didn’t overreact when we lost Boss and Smith, I trusted Reese’s judgment and agreed with him 100%.

    – This is the Boley I thought we were getting.

    – I wish we had just left Kiwi at the SAM, he would have been to a probowl already.

    – The drafting of Joesph was great, we got first round quality and he’s outplayed guys picked ahead of him. It’s hard to judge what a DT does but notice they don’t run to the middle of the Dline, they run at Osi…LOL.

    – Again Reese shows he a master at getting talent. Nobody gave Herzlich a second look. I was pulling for this guy to be a Giant.

    – What’s up with these misplayed kick returns? Why is Ross even out there, if he gets hurt we are in trouble. Another Duh for gogolfing(Coughlin).

    – All those places(so called restaurants) to eat were the food is NOT made by scratch stink.

    – Alex Smith never saw a pass rush like this, I expect him to melt down and provide the Giants with at least 2 defensive TDs.

    – Beatty will never be considered a top LOT until someone gets on his side and starts pushing for him. I argued with the guy from Walter football about Beatty. Reese scored again with first round talent. Again Coughlin held him back like he does with every rookie. He should have made the move in his rookie season and moved Diehl inside.

    – I was against the JPP pick, I thought we should have picked the cener at Pittsburg(Pouncey), I was wrong. JPP is a disruptive force, something you need on a defense.

    – Jacobs looked better but we will never know which Jacobs will show up. Time to cut this guy loose.

    – I like DJ but he has NO upside, he’s good as a SP player and fill in back. Good technique and runs well but no explosiveness.

    – Scott is going to be great. Why was he a 7th round pick? Can I please get that job as a GM now, someone help.

    – Barden has the knack like Cruz, can he stay healthy? Loved him in the draft, I even called it that the Giants would pick him and what round to a friend on a draft site. But get healthy kid!!!! And stay that way.

    – The quality of the Giant players exceeds the quality of the coaching on this team, IMO. I have my issues with gogolfing but the big problem is Killdrive and the special teams coach. Fewell is OK nothing special, he’s done a good job and has learned how to use the players the Giants have. The defense is looking more and more like the Spags unit. It would be nice if the coverage actually showed more of what is going on, they mostly show the guy with the ball and that’s it. Terrible coverage of football by the NFL and the networks.

    • Jason C. says:

Ross is returning punts, because Jernigan dropped everything that came his way in the preseason, and then Hixon went down for the year. Also he hasn’t dropped one until this game, he shouldn’t have dropped it, but he’s been solid at the very least. On the other hand, Thomas, who was looking like a special teams ace last year, has shown no progression, and if Barden can become a half decent special teams player, maybe Scott can return kicks??

  2. Jason C. says:

Anyone watch last nights Bears/Eagles game? I’d like the Giants to look over how the Bears used a less talented offensive line to open up huge holes in its running game. I know we’re used to having a great, experienced line, but this year it’s a little different, and you have to ACTUALLY work in certain schemes to let the team flourish. Watch that tape Killdrive!!

  3. David says:

Yes you did over react. Silly, silly giants fans. There is still a ton of work to do, but SMART Giants fans knew that Jerry always had the right plan for the Gmen. You picked the Giants for 4 wins and the Eagles for 14! We all thought that our own players would step up and fill thegaps, just no you. Step your game up!
