Jason Pierre-Paul: A Star is Born

I’m sorry for the lack of Thoughts and Musings this morning. Just been crazy busy here. Didn’t get back home till 11 last night. Had to actually watch the game today while working (love me some DVR). We’ll be back to normal next week.

I do want to comment, however, on Jason Pierre-Paul. Two sacks, a safety, and a perfectly timed blocked kick, in addition to just a dominant game, it’s clear that JPP is on the national radar. We’ve long been fans of him here, and mentioned how we think he’s going to be a star soon. Well, he’s a star now.

I want  to take a look back about what I wrote on JPP back when he was drafted. I was a bit sketchy on him.

The reason I’m not a fan of him is because he’s raw. But, he’s got all the talent. I think, eventually, he could be a Mario Williams type. He has that ability. But, he’s only played one year of major college football, and only had 6.5 sacks. But the talent is there.

Still, he’s a tremendous athlete, and has unlimited potential. He could be special. Or he could wash out. Who knows. The draft is a crapshoot. For the Giants, so is Pierre-Paul.

He was boom or bust coming in. But the best thing is they brought him along slowly. When someone is raw, you cannot throw him into the fire.  Bring him along slowly, which is exactly what he did. Let the playbook and the mental catch up with the physical. And it has.

12.5 sacks already. He is very similar to Jevon Kearse. He has just incredible athletic skill. Almost unnatural. But it works for him. And guess what, the Giants have another star defensive end on their hands.
