Giants Cowboys Game Preview

Happy New Year! I hope your New Year’s festivities were fun and safe. It was a great 2011 for GiantsGab, and we’re looking forward to a great 2012. Thank you for being the best readers and fans on earth.

And now, onto football. Hey, we’ve got a playoff like game here! It’s win or go home, do or die, as the Cowboys ride into town to face the Giants. Winner takes all. Who’s going to get it done?

Questionable: NT Josh Brent (knee), WR Andre Holmes (hamstring), RB Felix Jones (hamstring), LB Sean Lee (wrist, illness), S Danny McCray (ankle), WR Kevin Ogletree (knee)

Probable: CB Mike Jenkins (shoulder), P Mat McBriar (left foot),NT Jay Ratliff (ribs), WR Laurent Robinson (shoulder)QB Tony Romo (right hand), LB DeMarcus Ware (neck)

Out: TE Jake Ballard (knee), LB Mark Herzlich (ankle)

Questionable: DE Osi Umenyiora (ankle, knee)

Probable: RB Ahmad Bradshaw (foot), WR Mario Manningham (knee), WR Hakeem Nicks (hamstring)

The offense really isn’t an issue for me, although Bear Pasoce didn’t do anything to make him a viable replacement for Jake Ballard. Bradshaw and Jacobs had their best games of the season against the Jets, but the Dallas front 7 is really good, anchored by Jay Ratliff. Still, if they can carry some of that over to tonight, that will be a big help. The Dallas secondary isn’t too good; Eli should be able to have a field day. Cruz and Nicks should have big games. It’s not the offense I’m worried about tonight. The run game is key for me, because it can help slow the game down and keep the Cowboys off the field.

Here’s where I’m worried. Despite Romo’s hand injury, he’s still capable of damage, and is enjoying the emergence of Laurent Robinson. The Giants have to get pressure on Romo. If they cannot, Romo will go off and this will be a shootout. Tuck, JPP, Osi if he plays, have to come hard at Romo because that’s the way to beat him. The Giants should be able to contain the run game, but if they let Romo make plays, bad things will happen. Pressure, pressure, and more pressure.

We know the Cowboys pretty well, because they’re very similar to the Giants. Decent defense, but bad secondary. Great QB (yes, Romo is a great QB. On talent, at least.) Decent run game. This is an evenly matched game. How will the Cowboys fare on the road? Should be a raucous crowd.

Like I said, this is pretty evenly matched. It will come down to the QBs and mistakes. Whichever QB plays better and whichever teams makes the fewest mistakes will win. Sounds simple, but with two evenly matched teams, that’s what happens. I think, in this one, with a lot on the line, it’s going to be a close game. Coming down to the wire. But a fun one. And, I think Giants fans will start the New Year off right. FINAL SCORE: Giants 42, Cowboys 38

I have to disagree, Jacobs’ best game was against the Cowboys and Bradshaw’s best was against Buffalo IMO. Though both, especially Jacobs put up some key blocks to give Eli some extra time in the pocket against the Jets, something that is going to be needed tonight against DeMarcus Ware. The X-factors are definitely Nicks and Osi. If Osi plays (well), then we should have a distinct advantage. Without Ballard we know they’re going to try to spread out 4/5 wide, especially with Manningham’s return, Nicks needs to take advantage of a weak secondary with his skill set. I know they’ll go in with a set gameplan that can lead them to victory, now let’s hope they execute, if so we’re in the playoffs where anything can happen.

I have to disagree with you about your prediction. I think the defense shows up big this evening. Why you ask? I think the other defensive linemen are a little jealous of JPP and all the attention he is receiving even though he deserves all of it. I think everyone on defense steps up their game and the cowgirls wont be able to convert 3rd downs. The only bad thing to the defense playing well is that the offense will be inconsistent but they may surprise me. Overall a low scoring game I believe. My final score Giants win 21-6.

This is the “Fork in the Road” for this group of Giants. If they loose you can expect a “House Cleaning” from coaching to the players on this current roster. If they win I feel there will still be changes if they are one and done in the playoffs.

I want this game bad, If they loose I will be in hiding for about a week. We need a well played game and desire on the Giants part. Laying an “egg” would be just a disaster.
