Review: Week 10 Vs 49ers

Sunday’s matchup against the 49ers is not the first one. The two played in Week 10, in San Fran, with the Niners taking it 27-20.

The Giants were down 27-20, before attempting a furious comeback that put them in the red zone with a chance to tie. A few attempts to tie did not work out, and they lost.

The Giants stopped the run for the most part, only giving up 77 ground yards. To be fair, Frank Gore did leave with an injury, and is now healthy. They might be able to run more.

The Giants were also sacked only once; surprising, since that’s the strength of the 49ers. Then again, the Giants only had two, none by Pierre-Paul.

Greg Jones gave up the TD to Vernon Davis, which is a good thing, because Jones, after his short stint as the starting middle linebacker, doesn’t play much other than on special teams. Jaicquan Williams has more responsibility, and has improved.

Manning was 26-40, 311 yards and two scores. At one point, he hit 10 consecutive passes.  Great numbers.

The 49ers did do a surprise onside kick and recovered. Something to look out for.

I don’t know if this game is necessarily indictative of where these teams are now. It was a relatively close game, and the Giants are obviously much hotter now than they were in November, when they were suffering their typical midseason swoon. I think the comeback attempt is positive, despite its failure. Being able to put up points against a good defense when it matters is important. That said, trying to decipher who is going to win from this game is difficult. The Giants are a different team. The 49ers are a different team. The Giants will have a healthy Michael Boley. The Niners will have a healthy Frank Gore, and a confident Alex Smith. This is a different game. And should be treated as such.

On the final play Patrick Willis was BLATANTLY holding Jake Ballard, it showed they were scared of what was going to happen, and knew that the play would be called in their favor. Pretty bush league move, but until the league makes calls on game changing plays, why would they stop doing these things?

There is a double decker sight seeing bus roaming around the streets of San Francisco

I have a great photo of the bus in Fishermans Wharf but i don’t see an option to upload!

What a great idea to really get those Giants fans in San Francisco pumped up!

The Giants are a much better and healthier team than when they lost to San Fran. The 49er’s are a nice team with a great coach. The defense is very good, but not as good as Big Blue. The offense isn’t either and the pass rush will fluster Smith. Giants win and go to the Superbowl. My wife predicted it weeks ago and she is prescient–at least when it comes to me! My older daughter has NY Giants tattooed in Blue to her neck. The last time they one the Superbowl was her 21st birthday. I’m old school and hate tats, except for hers. My brother-in-law was a HUGE Giant fan. He forgot more about football than I’ll ever know. We watched many. many games together. He died a few months back. This one’s for Marty.
