As much as we might want to bask in the glow of the Super Bowl win, unfortunately, we can’t. The NFL has moved on and is already focusing on free agency and the draft. So we’ll do the same.
I do, of course, want to start by looking back. How did this crazy, incredible season unfold? What happened? We’ll go game by game, and provide a brief description. Enjoy
WEEK 1:
Giants At Redskins
This game started the season off awfully. The 28-14 loss made Rex Grossman look like a star (that would become a theme for the Giants, unfortunately). It started off a theme of the Giants sort of playing down to competition. An awful start.
WEEK 2:
Rams at Giants
This was more like it. The score (28-16) didn’t reflect the game; the Giants thoroughly outplayed the Rams. This game was the first in which Michael Boley really made his importance to the defense known.
WEEK 3:
Giants at Eagles
This was another incredible win. The Eagles entered the season as the favorites, and the Giants just dismantled them. Victor Cruz was huge, and this was his coming out party. Mike Vick did not have time at all; the pressure was terrific. A great performance.
WEEK 4:
Giants at Cardinals
The first of many comeback wins. Hakeem Nicks had a big game, and Eli was clutch.
WEEK 5:
Seahawks at Giants
This wasn’t as good. Despite a great game from Victor Cruz, the Giants let the Seahawks dictate the tempo. Their no huddle offense really did a number on the Giants, and the Seahawks, who really weren’t that great, made the Giants look silly.
WEEK 6:
Bills at Giants
Another comeback win for the Giants. But this one should have been a blowout. The Giants made games against lesser teams too difficult.
WEEK 7:
BYE
WEEK 8:
Dolphins at Giants
Another sloppy game; they almost lost to the then-unbeaten Dolphins. Eli Manning was terrific, throwing for 349 yards.
WEEK 9:
Giants at Patriots
This was a terrific game, as the Giants had to come back, hitting Jake Ballard for the game winning touchdown on the road. They won without Nicks and Bradshaw; I’m sure this game gave them plenty of confidence heading into the Super Bowl.
WEEK 10:
Giants at 49ers
A failed comeback, but a close game. Michael Boley was hurt, which was a huge blow. Their comeback came just short.
WEEK 11:
Eagles at Giants
The Giants let Vince Young look like the Vince Young from Texas in this game, as he drove the Eagles down the field in close win for them. The Giants looked flat as all get out in this game.
WEEK 12:
Giants at New Orleans
This was just awful. Saints had a field day, winning 49-24. The defense was just pitiful.
WEEK 13:
Packers at Giants
This game was a terrific one. Close to the end, until the Pack led a last minute drive to win. This was the start, I think, of starting to turn things around.
WEEK 14:
Giants at Cowboys
The JPP game. Pierre-Paul blocked a field goal that would have tied the game, and kept a lead that was earned from a furious comeback by Eli Manning. An awesome game.
WEEK 15:
Redskins at Giants
Yeesh. After all the momentum from the Cowboys game, the Giants laid an egg, and once again, made Rex Grossman look like a star. Things were looking bleak.
WEEK 16:
Giants at Jets
The Battle of NY went to the Giants, as a 99 yard touchdown by Victor Cruz propelled them to victory, and I think, the playoff run.
WEEK 17:
Cowboys at Giants
Win and in. The Giants did just that, playing great on both sides; most dominant performance to that point.
PLAYOFFS
WILD CARD
Falcons at Giants
This was the most dominant performance of the year. On offense and defense. Defense pitched a shutout and the offense was moving at will. Terrific game, fun atmosphere.
DIVISIONAL
Giants at Packers
The Hail Mary game. The Giants came in as heavy dogs, and methodically stopped Rodgers, and moved down the field with ease. The Hail Mary to Nicks was good too.
NFC CHAMPIONSHIP
Giants at 49ers
A topsy turvy game that was won on a overtime field goal. Cruz was terrific. Devin Thomas was the hero, with two fumble recoveries.
SUPER BOWL
Giants Patriots
We all know how this went. Eli did his thing, and the Giants came out as champs.
