Happy Passover and Easter, my fellow Musers. Let’s do this:
-Prospect Profiles are alive and well. Read them here. Coming up later today will be troubled CB Janoris Jenkins of North Alabama.
-In a dream world, I would love Mark Barron to fall to the Giants at 32. I don’t think that’s going to happen. He could go as high as 14 to Dallas, 16 to the Jets, and won’t get past New England twice. The Giants would have to trade up for him, which I’m not sure if they’re willing to do.
-In the last mock, I mocked Mike Adams in the first, Lavonte David in the 2nd. I waffle about Adams. Tremendous physical tools, a little raw. But I’m in love with David. I think he’s a perfect WILL. He can cover. Yes, he’s a bit small. But WILL linebackers can be smaller. You move Boley to the middle, have Williams at SAM, and that’s a nice linebacking core, who can all play 3 downs.
-And yes, I think David would be a great pick at 32.
-I think Kevin Zeitler or Peter Konz could also be the pick at 32. Konz might go as high as 20, to the Titans. Zeitler should be there. Plug and play guard. Konz offers more versatility, as he can play center and guard. Konz is the higher regarded prospect, but Zeitler isn’t too far behind.
-Watch out for Alshon Jeffery too. The Giants were at his pro day. He would fit in perfectly as a “Z” receiver across from Hakeem Nicks. Keeps Cruz in the slot.
-Doug Farrar of Shutdown Corner made a good point in his RB/WR podcast with Greg Cosell about Cruz (which is a must-listen). Said that the typical slot guy is more like Wes Welker, not going to beat you vertically, but is going to run crossing routes, screens, etc. Cruz can beat you vertically, so all of the sudden, safeties have to worry about the slot. Before, it was just the slot cover. Now, you can’t play Cover-2. You have to bring the safety up. And then that leaves room for Nicks. Boom.
-Cruz is going to get paid. And he deserves it. Just a question of when. Does he become a holdout? I don’t think so. But always in the back of your mind.
-Same with JPP
-I think the loss of Tollefson was huge. He could play inside/out, could rush. Had 5 sacks. Need a replacement. In the draft, I like Jake Bequette of Arkansas. Here’s what I wrote about him:
Jake Bequette is a strong, experienced defensive end. Good size at 6-5. Pretty quick. Not necessarily powerful, despite his size. Was making plays behind the line in college. He’s not too athletic, and that will hurt him. But he is a productive, experienced defensive end who could probably slide inside. Strikes me as a rotation guy who can play all over and fill the Dave Tollefson role. Middle round guy who can get a push in the pass rush, as well as make plays in the run game. Would be very happy with him in the 4th or 5th round. Has the experience to play right away.
