The Giants have waived TE Jake Ballard and re-signed defensive tackle Rocky Bernard, according to the team.
According to reports, Ballard failed his physical:
Ballard failed the team physical.

That must mean that Ballard’s ACL is worse than we thought. Not sure what happens to Ballard, but the TE depth has gotten even thinner. Again, I fully expect the Giants to sign a veteran tight end before the season.
As for Bernard, more depth for the defensive line. I’m guessing he’ll battle with Shaun Rogers for playing time.
Thoughts on the move, and what this means for the Giants?

Giants will probably stow him away on the practice squad, I don’t see anyone putting in a claim for a guy recovering from an ACL tear, but he picked up the offense too fast to just let him walk for nothing. I really like keeping Rocky though, it looks like they’re finally getting serious about stopping the run.
Oops!
I’ll B BAKK….
Bad news. Hope he can get healthy and get back on the team.
I hope he can come back. He did more than just replace Boss, and for just a few bucks too.
Maybe they’ll stack him on IR or something.
About Bernard, I guess we’ll keep 4 DTs. I don’t see them parting ways with Austin (he’s just 23) so it means that either Bernard or Rogers won’t make the team.
Sign another TE. I mean I guess. Bennett, Hopkins, Robinson, and Poscoe. Plus Beckum on the mend. That is plenty for a team that doesn’t use its TE heavy.
I agree, let’s not forget we started 2011 with 2 TEs on the roster, Ballard and Beckum.
Pascoe was listed as a FB at the time (something he is not – like, at all) so we may be looking at 3 TEs on the 53.
I also don’t see another TE coming in, unless there’s an injury or Bennett is so bad that he gets cut. Bennett, Robinson and Pascoe should make the roster. Beckum should be on the PUP and any decision on that can be made when it needs to be. Hopkins (unless he’s really impressive) spends another year on the practice squad.
