Thoughts and Musings

Good Monday morning, everybody. Let’s do this.

-Camp starts soon, which is mind boggling. Look for Storify’s of camp tweets, updates on injuries and roster battles, and everything you’ve come to expect from the Gab.

-Terrell Thomas says he’s ready for camp:

“I just left the doctor’s office; I am all cleared for camp,” Thomas blogged. “I have no limitations entering camp; obviously they will be monitoring me throughout camp. It will be in the hands of [head trainer] Ronnie Barnes who has been protecting me thus far.”

It will be interesting to see how he performs. There’s going to be some rust, and that’s to be expected. I’m sure they’ll take it easy on him. But if he can return to his previous form, the Giants just got a lot better.

-Remember, Thomas, before the injury, looked like he was going to be a star. So, while we can’t expect him to be that right away, if he can eventually get back to that, look out.

-Either way, I think Thomas, unless he’s a complete disaster, is an upgrade over Aaron Ross.

-And then you have Prince Amukamara who now has his first full offseason. Now has a training camp, actually, and OTAs and preseason and all that stuff that he missed last year. So you have to think that’s going to benefit him greatly. Add on top that the postseason experience, and look for Prince to have a good year.

-Plus, Jayon Hosley is a talented guy. The Giants don’t go four corners often, but they could if they wanted to.

-Let’s just hope the corners can stay healthy. Remember last camp? Seemed like a corner a day was going down.

-I’m still not thrilled with the safety depth. The starters are fine. Tyler Sash is going to be asked to play a bigger role. Stevie Brown, Chris Horton. I’m not sure how I feel about those guys. To me, they’re all special teams guys.

-So, now the big question is what happens on third down? You don’t have Deon Grant to cover tight ends anymore. So who does? Maybe you stay with a 3 linebacker look, and put either Rivers or Williams on a TE. Or go to a more traditional nickel look with three corners. Or you try something where Rolle covers the tight end and Sash is back there as a safety. The possibilities are endless. How Perry Fewell dials it up will be interesting.

-TV interlude: I just got Netflix, which is either the greatest thing or worst thing ever. Greatest because, well, there’s pretty much whatever movie or show you want to watch, instantly. Worst because, well, there’s pretty much whatever movie or show you want to watch, instantly. Huge procrastination tool. Anyway, I started watching Louie, the first season. My oh my, is that a funny show. He’s a comedic genius. It’s a bit raunchy, and can be a bit out there at times. But it’s just so damn funny. Highly recommended.

-I’m just excited for football. I think, barring injuries, it’s gonna be a good season. I mean, we’re bringing back pretty much the same team that just won the Super Bowl. Buckle up, folks

Don’t you mean we’re bringing back the same team that was one Romo poor throw away from being 8-8 ?

    :)

Our 2 biggest issues were pass protection and pass defense last season.

I feel that if we can get Tuck, Umenyiora and Thomas to be healthy, then we have a chance of greatly improving our glaring weakness. Manning will just have to be Houdini again.

Absolutely agree that the o-line is our glaring flaw. Hopefully we stay healthy and gain some consistency as the year progresses. But as long as the o-line can give Eli enough time in the pocket, the 2 time Super Bowl MVP and best receiving corps in the NFL will get the job done. Hopefully we get our running game going with the upgrade (yes, 1st round pick David Wilson is an upgrade over a declining Brandon Jacobs).

    Defense will be awesome

    ^
    Randel O O O O O ^ Nicks
    Cruz Eli ^
    Bradshaw Lewis~~~~(motion)~~~^

We must get the O-line together, we know Bradshaw can run inside or outside and block and with speed like this on passing plays……look out!!!!

  4. Glenn says:

Randle at wide lft., cruz in the slot, nicks wide rt. bradshaw and lewis at backs, motion lewis to slot or wheel route rt.

I think the offensive line will be great as long as they can develop James Brewer. I really don’t like Beatty, I know there’s a lot of fans of his on this site, and I’m sure you can show me stats as to how he’s a great LT, I just know watching the game I don’t see it. Now do I want him to succeed? Without a doubt, I just don’t expect it.

    • ArthuroMolenda says:

I don’t think you will find anyone who’ll tell you he’s a *great* LT.

(btw, we don’t need one, it’s too expensive and Manning can handle a little pressure.)

He looked somewhat ok last year because the rest of the OL was atrocious. I wish he played the whole season, just to see if he got better.

But now with his back problems back, it’s time to worry.

About Brewer, I think his only experience at LT was this year, during OTAs drills … so he’ll need a couple of years.

Cannot wait for Big D’s analysis on the defensive backs… (maybe a foreshadowing of what’s to come)

So as long as Rolle never ever ever ever remotely even sniffs a corner position and only plays safety I wont be forced to stress drink every sunday– was it just me or is Rolle always out of position when playing corner? was he trying to cheat receiver routs? did he not know his assignments?

what ever it was he needs to get his act together; I’m not sure how much more Doritos and alcohol my intestines can manage.

    • Jason C. says:

Barring a whole slew of freak injuries like last year, our CB position should be plenty deep, at least deep enough so you won’t have to see Rolle playing any corner next year, so you can sleep soundly now.
