Thoughts and Musings

Let’s muse.

-Seems like Shaun Rogers is impressing. That’s good; he adds more depth and remember, when he was in his prime, he was a beast. Not saying he plays at a Pro Bowl level, but if he can help out it’s good.

-As we know, can never have enough line depth.

-David Douglas, the undrafted free agent from Arizona, is impressing. Can he make the team? I don’t know, but definite practice squad material.

-Will Hill is going to get a roster spot. You heard it here first.

-I thought Hill would make a great flyer coming out of Florida. Here’s what I wrote

Will Hill is a talented, athletic free safety prospect who has some major character concerns. Very immature. Has all the potential in the world, but may never realize it, because he doesn’t have the work ethic. Fluid, rangy, big hitter, if he had his head on straight, he would be at least a second round pick. Instead, he’s looking at being a 7th round pick, or undrafted. He’s a risk. A big one. He could embarrass a franchise. He could also be a steal and a great player. I would lean towards the former, but I’ve seen crazier things happen. As a 7th round pick, there’s really no harm. He has all the talent. If he gets into a veteran locker room like the Giants, it could do him some good.

Now Hill seems to have his head on straight. He knows he doesn’t have too many chances. He’s a physical player, and I think he’s a big reason that Deon Grant hasn’t been re-signed.
-Of course, it’s still early, but the early word on Hill is encouraging. Let’s see it in games.
-Can you believe that football is right around the corner? Absolutely crazy.
-Olympics interlude: Are you enjoying the Olympics as much as I am? Every 2 years, it just engrosses me . And London is no different. Even though I know the results, I still tune and watch closely.
-I think Jayron Hosley has been a nice surprise. Playing well and I think he should get a good chunk of playing time in the preseason. Maybe he can slide into that nickel role.
-He didn’t play inside at college, but I don’t think the transition is going to be that hard. He’s pretty athletic and with a little bit of coaching he’ll be fine.
-What are you looking forward to in this first game? Rookies? Bubble players? Let us know.

I did not hear about will hill making the team here first. Just saying is all. I can’t wait until Wilson overtakes Bradshaw. He is like a faster more athletic version of him that doesn’t have broken feet. I think Bradshaw will get hurt again and Wilson will never look back.

So many things to look at …
DBs is my greatest concern right now, I’ll try to watch that. Austin, too, what can he do ?

The offensive line, I’m not worried about any positon, the Giants are deep. It’s the offensive line, little veteran depth and a lot of question marks, age, health and playing at a high level.

Who steps in, is Beatty going to 100%? Is Mosley going to win the ROT spot? If Mosley does what happens with Diehl, does he move back to LOT if Beatty isn’t ready? So many questions with that OLine.

I have few concerns –besides remaining healthy.

I’m curious about WR depth and the Running back and Linebacker rotations (who’s developing and who’s floundering?). Also, Will Hill has peaked my interest. Is he going to be a more athletic Michael Johnson? If so, I congratulate Reese and company on continuously finding middling guys others fail to recognize and harnessing their untapped potential; kudos Reese, Kudos!!!!

And Ramses eventual contribution or failure is always a meme of interest for me. My over/under on touchdowns for Barden this season playing for the Giants is two. Any takers?

Question: will both Bernard and Rogers make the team or because they’re both rather used up and old are they ultimately battling for the same roster spot?

My reason for asking is, I don’t see more than 5 DT making the team. Canty, Austin, Joseph, are locks so that leaves only 2 more spots, tops. Kuhn’s special teams possibility gives him an inside track for a spot, leaving 1 more; unless, for some reason Canty starts the season on the PUP. If that’s the case my whole scenario becomes wrenched and the possibilities vary tremendously.

My O/U for Barden TDs is 1 and I’ll take under.

      DT is tricky.

Canty is slowly getting better, from what I gather we shouldn’t expect him to play Dallas next month.
At the same time, if he starts the season on the PUP list, he can’t practice and play before week 7.

And if they activate him, that’s a roster spot for a guy who can’t play yet …

Austin is 3 years removed from a real football game and it shows, apparently he can’t even line up correctly (he had 2 off sides flagged because he was over the ball …). He doesn’t seem to be starter material right now.

Joseph of course is a lock. So I’d say Bernard has a good chance of playing in the season opener, and Rogers as well.

Do they start the season with 5 and release someone when Canty’s 100% or close ? Do they go with Canty on PUP and cut Rogers or Bernard week 7 to bring Canty back ?

In any case, right now, DT is a real issue.

Would they go as far as moving Tuck or Pierre-Paul inside ? If Joseph can handle the nose it’s a possibility. Remote as of yet, but still.
