The Giants face the Panthers tonight.

A good name for this game is the NFL greed game. It’s certainly not about the health of both teams who are playing again within a few days because of the greed of the NFL. They are about making money not the welfare of it’s players. How about the Greed Bowl or the Money Bowl, maybe the I’m still nursing an injury Bowl. Suck it up guys this is why you get the big bucks.

The Panthers are kind of in the same place as the Giants at 1-1. They beat the Saints who are not the same Saints that won a super bowl. The Saints are however still a good team and it was no easy task beating them. I did watch the Bucs-Panthers game and will say both teams are beatable and flawed as are the Giants. Like any NFL game the key is to not make mistakes and the Giants have yet to prove they can play a game focused and mistake free. The Bucs beat the Panthers because the Bucs scored some fast points before the Panthers could get their team focused. Like I have said the Bucs are a fundamentally sound and an opportunistic team, not an overly talented one.

After watching the Carolina Panthers I think they are a talented team with Can Newton at the helm, without him not. He’s a dangerous offensive weapon and must be contained. He is like Freeman in that he is not a pure pocket passer, to beat him you must make him one. That means containment, that means keeping him in the pocket which also means there will be less of a pass rush. The pressure must come from the blitz while the front four keeps their gaps and contains Newton. If they try to go wild they will be chasing him around and wear themselves out. Fewell must come up with some surprises and confuse the young QB with Blitz packages. This is where of all people Hosley can come in as well as Rolle and Boley, they are good at blitzing. That also means faking the blitz and covering from that position which is not an easy thing to do.

Blackburn is the weakest link, if I were the Panthers that is who I would attack with short passes underneath and try to run right at him. He is a liability as a Tampa 2 type MIKE. Rivers hopefully is healthy and is needed in this game. All the backup defenders are needed, players such as Kuhn, Herzlich and Williams are fresh. Fresh legs to chase down Newton, hit this kid hard if he runs. This is the time for the Giants defense to step up and play with the intensity they have lacked the past two games or they will lose, plain and simple. Webster is another player who has not played well and is someone I would attack as well as whoever plays on the other side, whether it’s Coe, Hosley, Prince but please no more Tryon, not Tryon. I would rather see KP take the CB spot.

The Carolina defense is a good one, their linebackers are small and fast, they can be overpowered. They do have a big defensive line but no one is in the class of a JPP, Osi or Tuck I will add Joseph to that group now. Although they sure did contain the Bucs the second half of that game. Honestly even without Nicks the Giants receiver corps should eat this team up, especially Bennett. The Panthers have absolutely no one, not one player who can even come close to matching up with Bennett, he must be utilized even if he does drop a pass, keep going to him.

It will be imperative for the Giants to rotate their players and keep the starters fresh for the fourth quarter push. With Brown the Giants should be able to do some power running especially with the smallish linebackers. Again as with the Bucs the Giants are a bigger, stronger and much more talented team. Some of the Giants backups would start on the Panthers, I think that says it all.

The Giants should beat this team, wear them down and finish them off in the fourth quarter. But the Giants have a Bulls eye on their back as Super Bowl Champs, everybody wants a piece of them. On short rest this team must focus and play better than they have, especially the special teams. For the Giants to win the young players must step up and make plays. Wilson, Randle, Prince, Hosley, Kuhn all must contribute and show they have superior talent, they do but it’s not that easy in the NFL as we all know.

Giants 30-24.

Nice summary BD. Any theories regarding our pedestrian pass rush?

Teams know better than I what to do. They break down film for hours and study it. They pay people to do what I do and they do it for long sessions.

So anything I see they see and much more.

It’s about every week adding something they have not seen. The loss of Canty was big. He ate space and took up people. That allowed the ends to be one on one. Jpp being doubled even tripled sometimes is killing the front four, it’s up to Tuck to make up for it and he hasn’t. They have to have different looks and blitzes, the offensive lines are too comfortable and ready. Fewell has to start using some twists on things and stop just relying on the talent level.

The Giants have played against 2 QBs that can run. This limits the rush. Their inability to cover means less blitzing. It’s the dominoes, one falls and the others fall. People have to step up, Fewell has to put his imagination cap on and Blackburn needs to be benched.

Coe is inactive, wtf happened to him?!?!? Good call on greed bowl, I’ve been saying this ever since Thursday night games were implemented every week, and the injuries this week just expose it for what it is. The problem is it also has a negative effect on fantasy football, which could cost them money in the long run.

      I guess its the hammy.

10-0 so far, they should beat this team, they should have beat the Cowboys. This line is much better without DD.

Brown is running like a good solid NFL back. Nothing fancy, hold the ball right, drive, cut once if it’s there and keep your legs moving.

Cam Newton is incredibly talented but a total D Bag. Score a TD to cut lead to 13 and celebrate like you just won the Super Bowl? Keep your stats and enjoy your 4-12 season.

    • Big Daddy says:

Yes I thought that was odd. Like he just scored the go ahead TD. Put your head down and try to figure out how to do it again. Maybe that’s one of the problems with this team.
