3rd Quarter Giants-Panthers

1-Kickoff-Panthers fumble, (Paysinger makes play) Giants ball on 19.

2-Brown off left tackle for a few yards.

3-Brown left for nothing, good defense by Panthers.

4-Eli runs short of first down.

5-FG good.

6-Kickoff again-Panthers on their 20, touchback.

7-Jpp just an inch away from sacking Newton. Screen pass for nice yardage, Bernard hustles to make tackle I never saw him move hat fast since his days in Seattle. I guess he knows Kuhn is coming and Austin is right behind him. Blackburn runs the wrong way.

8-Hosley almost INT., bad pass by Newton.

9-Giants stout up the middle, no gain on the run.

10-Somebody missed coverage Newton avoids sack and gets ball off down the middle.

11-Giants stout again force the runner wide left and stop for no gain.

12-Boley lost coverage, no pressure complete down the middle.

13- Option play short pass on right side. Newton almost sacked.

14-Giants stout on the run, RB had no place to go.

15-Newton bootleg for nothing up the middle. Kuhn is really holding his ground and makes strong tackle.

16-Bloey saves a TD with his speed. Someone lost coverage, this Giants defense is playing too soft with their coverages.

17-Whoops Blackburn runs to cover A gap on other side and completely runs out of play allowing a nice gain on left side. If he stayed where he was he would have stopped the play dead. Why did he move? I am guessing he is doing what Fewell is telling him to do for that defensive call. The looked like it was going that way but it was stopped cold, like a robot Chase just went where he was told. Yes it’s wrong to freelance on a disciplined defense but good players make plays and Chase just doesn’t make plays. A step toward the A gap and a step back and he makes the play.

18-Newton up the middle for nothing.

19-Newton takes off for the Moon and scores a TD. Extra point is good.

20-Kickoff-Wilson to the 24, Bear and Stevie Brown both got nailed and their players made the tackle, Bear you have to block better than that.

21-Eli to Bennett down the middle, beautiful pass, nobody can take him, he’s too big and fast.

22-Eli to Cruz on right side for gain.

23-Brown on draw play for short yardage.

24-Cruz for a first down in middle of field.

25-Brown finds a crease on the left side. Snee stopped blocking for some reason if he finished the block Brown might have had a big gain.

26-Bennett down the middle, this is open all game.

27-Brown should have really had this pass coming across the middle. It was thrown a little behind him though. Good play by the rookie linebacker Kuechly.

28-Eli sacked.

29-Screen pass, Brown was rambling but got tripped up, still made yardage, just short of first down. Baas went to block player but it he was too low to get a hit on, give the defender credit for not giving up and making the play.

30-FG good. It really should have been a TD, the Giants were not really executing that well and the Panther defense was playing really hard.

31-Kickoff deep into endzone, touchback.

32-Beautiful fake by Newton and pass to his right.

33-Giants stout again, Big Rocky runs down LOS to make tackle of RB.

End of 3rd quarter.

It’s a repeat of the first half of the game, the Giants are the better team. The Panthers are playing harder now it seems and the Giants are coasting a bit. The Giants know they won this game and are the better team but the Panthers keep playing to try and win, they have not given up. After watching the Panthers a few games it seems like they are a little slow to get focused onto the game. To beat them you have to jump on things fast. They also make too many mistakes, especially Newton who has all the talent, he needs to mature as a person and player. This option offense helps Newton but is not a winning system and has to be dumped. It can work, but only occasionally and not as designed, it needs tweaking.

I think Cam Newton successfully pulled off the most negative touchdown celebration ever. He looked like he was upset to score, but HAD to do his stupid Superman thing, as if he’s contractually obligated to. It was sad and pathetic.
