4th Quarter Giants-Panthers

1-Hosley lost coverage on Olsen for nice gain on left side.

2-Sack by Boley and JPP.

3-Good overall coverage, tight. The Giants play best when they are M2M. Incomplete pass.

4-A pass to nowhere by Newton, Boley INT.

5-Brown off tackle left side for 7 yards. Boothe and Hynoski are really crunching people.

6-Really nice move by Barden, he took a step out and went inside, this is another veteran move by Barden, really a thing of beauty even with tight coverage 10 yards on left side, nice pass by Eli. A receiver must sink his hips to get a tight cut on the break and get that separation, Barden did.

7-Brown left side the Panthers strung it out nicely. Barden must work on his blocking to be a complete player.

8-Eli to Barden, right side for a few.

9-Eli to Bennett on right side, face mask by Panthers, Flag. That was just a poor play by the Panthers it’s obvious they are getting embarrassed by their play or lack of good play.

10-Eli just miss timed it with Barden, it almost looked like the Plax endzone play. Once they get the timing together it could be almost unstoppable. Incomplete pass though.

11-Eli to Brown down the middle just short of TD. There were a few Giants open.

12-TD on Brown run left. EX PT good.

13-Kickoff-a bit of poor tackling but Scott makes a good tackle like a defensive player, Scott wants to play football and he’s proving it even if he’s not getting any carries. He knows his time will come if he just keeps playing well when he has the chance. That’s the type of player to build teams with, another 7th round find by Reese.

14-Webster playing soft, nice YAC by receiver. The thing I liked was watching Marvin Austin run down the field trying to make the play.

15-Giants tighten up and Newton has to run to sideline for little gain.

16-Newton under pressure just gets ball off for short pickup down middle.

17-Flag on Webster, I do not see any reason for flag he had perfect coverage on receiver and was looking at the ball. If his head was turned toward the receiver it should have been a flag. Thank goodness the regular refs will be in now so they too can blow calls like this….yes I am being sarcastic but honest.

18-Good tackle by Webster for short gain on left side.

19- OK this is where Blackburn really sucks, I’m sorry Chase fans but he was the only guy there and was easily taken out of play. He didn’t even fight the blocker off, he stood there and did not get low to take on block and try and make play. He plays with no aggression at all. Blackburn could have pushed the guy off and at least tried to make the tackle or made the runner change direction. It’s there on the film and the film don’t lie. He looks stiff and unable to bend his body.

20-Good coverage by Giants and pressure on Newton, incomplete in endzone

21-Steveie Brown makes INT in endzone and runs it back for 44 yards.

22-Carr in for Eli, short pass to left side to Bennett. This is good that Carr is getting some playing time.

23-Scott for -1 yards but the second team line is in.

24-Carr holds onto ball way too long and is sacked, fumbles.

25-Punt-Fumble by Panthers Tryon recovers but is not allowed to advance on this play, that’s the rule, Giants ball.

26-Nice run by Scott for 4 yards, you can see his acceleration, he ran text book.

27-Scott left side, breaks tackle for 5 yards.

28-Scott down middle for 2.

29-Carr incomplete to Randle on left side. Randle ran a terrible rout, that was bad. He has to step it up to get playing time and if he does routes like that he will never see it.

30-I think Scott makes a mistake and takes it down middle instead of following what looks like some good blocking on the left side. I don’t know what the call was so was he free lancing or following the play? He had a big hole on that left side.

31-Scott for nothing, no hole at all, it was that naked draw play I do not like that much, especially in the redzone. It’s just not a good redzone call unless the defense is specifically spread out.

32-FG good.

33- Kickoff-JJ makes nice tackle. Holding call on panthers.

34-New QB in for Panthers short pass to right.

35-Big pass down middle for gain.

36- Pass down middle for gain.

37-Short pass and run for gain, Herzlich makes tackle.

Game over.

This was a game we all needed, as fans and for the team. It proved this team has depth and talent, the offensive line had a pretty good game and will get even better. Players buy into the Coughlin mantra to play by the book, good fundamentals and do not make mental mistakes. If you don’t turn the ball over you won’t have to play catch up all the time.

I think after seeing this game the Giants are going to have to make a decision on Blackburn. I cannot see him playing anymore, he was flat out terrible and not getting better. The game against the Eagles will expose his play even more. He looks so stiff like he can’t bend, so many times he just stands there and does not get into the blocker or tackle. It’s like the defense is playing with 10 ½ men on the field.

I expect the Giants to be 3-1 on Monday.

  1. Jason C. says:

On that first drive in the 4th, Barden did a lot of the work down the field but Andre Brown got the TD, he must’ve been really upset about that oh wait, he isn’t THE Santonio Holmes…
How that guy’s still employed is a joke.

As far as Chase is concerned, I am a fan, but agree that his best contributions are on special teams and that he should be used as a backup LB.
