Thoughts and Musings- Week 6

Here is what I liked, didn’t like, and some other thoughts about Week 6:

What a game. I don’t even think the craziest Giants fans saw that coming, I know I sure didn’t.  Obviously the Giants had a chance coming in, but to do that to a team who had looked so solid and who had motivation to beat you? Wow.

So happy to see the pass rush being effective.  I was getting worried there for a few weeks when people like Brandon Weeden were getting ALL day to throw the ball.

I think a lot of that is due to the schemes from Perry Fewell.  He switched things up a lot on the line this week, including giving Kiawanuka a lot more reps at DE, which paid off.  I’d like to see more of that.

I was pretty impressed by the secondary.  Prince looked really good for most of the game, and Antrel Rolle obviously made some fantastic plays.  I really hope they can keep up this level from week to week, especially with Phillips out.

Shutting down Vernon Davis like that was pretty impressive.

I thought the offense played really well this week. Going up a defense like SF is always going to be a slugfest, but the Giants held their own.

The offensive line was phenomenal.  I was a bit worried when Ahmad Brooks got that hit on Eli early, but they shut down a usually dominant Niners D-Line for the rest of the game.

Speaking of Eli, I thought he played really well.  I think he realized that this wasn’t a game he had to completely take over, which is going to be difficult enough to do anyway against the Niners’ D.  He took a step back, made a few nice throws, took care of the football, and let Ahmad Bradshaw and his defense do the rest.

I’m not sure what has gotten into Bradshaw since he came back from his injury, but I like what I see.  He looks like a completely different player.  I’m not sure whether its him or the offensive line, but I hope it continues.

David Wilson had another awesome day returning.  He didn’t get to shine at RB, but he made a huge impact on the field position game.  One of these weeks he will break one for a TD, he HAS to.

I may be a jerk, but the Cowboys losing the way they did brought a smile to my face. That type of clock mis-management is absolutely inexcusable and absolutely shocking.  They had a chance to defeat a really good team, and absolutely blew it.

I wasn’t nervous about the game next week, but after seeing how good RGIII looked last week I am now.  I’d like to see some hits on him early next week, and to keep him in the pocket as much as possible.  They already lost to the Rex Grossman-led Skins twice last year, if they don’t step it up it could be worse.

See you next week!

Canty is back at practice this week. He will add some much needed DT depth if he can go, although that is a stretch.

Liked seeing Kiwi on the line too. Fewell had a nice game plan coming into this one. Hopefully he has something just as good worked up to contain RG3 and Morris.

Canty said he was ready to go in the Carolina game, so I don’t think it’s too much of a stretch to expect effectiveness from him this week.

A lot of players say they are ready when they arent. Thats the competitor in them talking. Fact is, the guy hasnt practiced all summer or season until this week. I hope he can go out there and play, but I wouldnt be surprised if he wasnt on the field until next weeks game

Kiwi back at DE. What a great idea. Where did I hear that before?
