John Mara spoke to reporters Thursday for the first time about the Giants’ failure to make the playoffs, and said he hasn’t “quite gotten over” his team’s failed title defense. He also touched on a few other subjects, including Osi Umenyiora‘s future.
The defensive end has made it no secret that he wants a new contract and a starting position and that he thinks it is time to move on.
“I don’t know about that,” Mara said when asked if Umenyiora has played his final game as a Giant. “We’ll see what happens. I would love to have him back. He’s been a great player for us. He’s a great guy. He’s been a huge part of our two Super Bowl wins, but there are economic considerations and we’ll just have to see what happens.”

I think Osi’s a goner. He would probably be seeking a long-term deal worth big $$$$. I don’t see the Giants as being in his range, unless the open market is flat and he comes back to them seeking a ‘one-year’ deal that is satisfactory to both parties.
