Former WV QB Pat White Cancels Visit To Giants

Former West Virginia QB Pat White cancelled a scheduled visit to the Giants today in what appears at first glance to be a curious move, given that he has already been a huge draft bust and washed out of the league.

It would make sense that he would welcome any opportunity to show his stuff. The decision makes more sense, however, given the report from Jason La Canfora of cbssports.com that White has scheduled a visit with the Redskins for Wednesday and is “very likely to sign”.

Ok, we gotta ask-is it a better career move to choose a team with entrenched starter RGIII and phenom backup Kirk Cousins over a team that has the very beatable David Carr as their backup?

White would be a good fit for Mike Shanahan’s read-option offense but he has never thrown a regular season pass in the NFL. His options seemed to significantly narrow when the 49ers-his only other visit-opted instead to trade for former Browns QB Colt McCoy.

If White does pan out in Washington, the team could consider an attractive trade offer for Cousins in 2014. White will have to show much more than he ever did in Miami first.

Are/were the Giants exploring the pistol or read-option type of offense and the possibility of a back-up familiar with the principles? hence the possible interest in Pat White? I am trying to figure out why they would even have an interest in him.
