You can’t say it more succinctly as to what is wrong with the Giants right now. Whether Eli Manning feels like he has to force it to get a win, whether he’s not seeing the defense — he absolutely needs to make smarter decisions and flat out play better than he has this season.
This is his 10th year – he’s simply making too many mistakes. All season we’ve heard Eli has been the victim of collateral damage. A shoddy offensive line. No run game. TE’s that can’t run or pass block. And while that may be true to a certain extent — yesterday the Giants put together a competitive game in the face of all that and were down by a point with the ball in the 4th quarter. We saw shorter routes. We saw quick release passes completed for big gains. We saw the run game open up a bit with Brandon Jacobs who ran hard.
And yet, with only being down a point and holding the ball you would have thought the game was out of reach. Boykins made a great play to intercept a Victor Cruz caught ball to force the first INT – the Eagles quickly scored to go up by 8. Then the wheels popped completely off. Eli throws 2 more picks — and the game is over. How we can see Eli Manning go from calmly winning games in the 4th quarter with great decisions to this guy — when he’s supposed to be in his prime — is beyond me.
I have nothing left to critique in that sense – the Giants moved the ball well by doing what we’ve been clamoring for as fans for weeks. They arguably should have scored more – got conservative only up a few points perhaps, but largely the Giants had control of this game and let it slip away with poor play on offense, followed quickly by a given up defense. Sad state of affairs right now in East Rutherford.
