Plan To Stop Packers Run Game Could Involve DT Jenkins Moving Outside

The obvious game plan for the Packers this coming Sunday is to stop the run and force the ball into the 3rd string QB’s hands. To that end, Eddie Lacy needs to be stopped Sunday afternoon. How best can the Giants achieve that goal with JPP possibly on the sidelines? One idea floated today by members of the press has DT Cullen Jenkins playing DE on Sunday. And Perry Fewell apparently likes the idea:

“He has that flexibility to go out and play that. He’s a tougher, stronger, thicker guy out there that can play the run for us and he can convert and rush the passer from out there so to me he gives us a double edge in that sense.

“That would be a real good option for us because he can take on the tight end, he can take on the tackle, he can anchor and set the edge on the defense, he can shed and we still have a good compliment of tackles inside that can do the job.”

The Giants are fairly deep at DT this year, this is actually a great idea as Fewell points out because Jenkins can not only man handle a TE, but he’s a pretty good pass rusher too. I have a feeling Da Monster want’s to get in there, but with stopping the run at such a premium this week — the better move tactically would be shift Jenkins outside and rely on Patterson, Hankins, and Joseph inside. Tuck would obviously be other bookend and is a great run stopping DE in his own right.
