Jon Beason on the state of the NY Giants defense.

“People can say we haven’t faced the best quarterbacks, but we don’t get much props for shutting down the top running backs either. To me, it all depends on how you want to spin it. Guys are going to say you haven’t played anybody, but we know how hard it is to win in this league. A W is a W and injuries are a big part of this game and the way the championship/playoff teams looks at it is, it’s the next guy up. You know he’s as good as that guy who’s going to go in there and step in his place, for a quarterback or any position. Guys have to step up and be ready to play.”

I completely agree. This defense was formulated to stop the run after 2012’s gash filled season. And since the Bears game after MLB Jon Beason came aboard, the Giants have been shutting the run game down completely. They’ve bottled up Matt Forte, LeSean McCoy twice, Adrian Peterson, Eddie Lacy… not exactly lightweights. According to PFF, the Giants have improved each week in run defense to make it to #3 overall in the league in that category.

Say what you want about the opposing QB, the Giants have made each team one dimensional since October and show no signs of slowing down now that they’ve hit their 4 game win streak. Look out Dallas.
