Giants TE Coach Mike Pope Fired

The hits just keep on coming as two long time coaches have been announced as fired this morning.  Firstly, Jerald Ingram and now TE Coach Mike Pope.

For a Giants organization that has long had a storied history in bringing in fan favorite TE’s that could block and catch like Mark Bavaro, Jeremy Shockey, Kevin Boss, and Jake Ballard — guys that made big plays when it mattered, I’m still shocked that Pope was let go.

Long thought of as a great TE coach that got the most out of his project players – particularly Boss and Ballard – this one comes as a shock.  But new coordinator Ben McAdoo is a former TE coach with a decent resume of incorporating the TE into the Green Bay offense effectively, I’m willing to remain open to change until things go sour here.

After all, we know the TE position has been a turnstile the last 5 years and we need to get more production out of that position.  Hopefully McAdoo has some ideas on how to get that done.  Unfortunately, it may come down to addition by subtraction of Mike Pope.
