Giants Free Agents – Who’s Unsigned, Who’s Leaving?

Of the estimated three hundred or so NY Giants set to enter free agency at the start of the offseason, some players remain with the team. Some have signed elsewhere. Others have now become free agents. Some of those players will sign elsewhere, some still could be back with the Giants at the start of camp. We know who the Giants went out and signed as priority hole fillers… Let’s take a look at the list of unsigned players.

OC Jim Cordle
RB Da’Rel Scott
RB Andre Brown
WR Louis Murphy
TE Bear Pascoe
DT Shaun Rogers
DT Mike Patterson
CB Terrell Thomas
CB Corey Webster
CB Aaron Ross

Of this list, I can’t imagine keeping anyone but two of the three linemen – Cordle and Patterson. For everyone else, the Giants are looking to become younger, faster, stronger, better.

Jim Cordle can possibly be a backup center since Kevin Boothe signed a 2 year deal in Oakland yesterday. Possibly.

Mike Patterson had a hell of a good year with the Giants – he’s a battler. I would like to see the Giants re-sign him if they don’t pickup a DT in the draft. Which they probably should do. But I’d welcome Patterson back.

Terrell Thomas is visiting Oakland, where ex-Giants tend to get paid before retirement. I loved his story coming back after 3 ACL’s I wish him the best. After signing a couple very good CB’s in Thurmond and DRC, I don’t see how the Giants keep T2 on the roster. Same goes for Aaron Ross. And the same goes for Corey Webster I’m afraid. Thank your for your service gentlemen.

Andre Brown is a tough one. The Giants loved him, hence the draft pick and then bringing him back after 6 other teams kicked the tires. Between his injuries, his ball control issues, and having other better options on the team I don’t see how Brown fits into the 4 RB slots the Giants have right now. Jennings, Hillis, Wilson, Cox. Those are the four RBs the Giants, barring injury, will head into the season with on paper.

Da’Rel Scott – I supported him and cheered for him when he made the team last year. But he’s clearly got some things to work on. The Giants cannot afford to keep him on the roster this year. Good luck to him.

And Bear Pascoe – the man good at everything and nothing. Hynoski and Conner will compete for FB – I’m convinced the Giants will draft another TE this spring with huge upside. And would love to see Adrien Robinson and Larry Donnell turn heads this training camp under McAdoo’s new offensive scheme. So thanks for being a versatile member of the Giants Bear – good luck in the future.

Louis Murphy – never was given a legit shot, doubt he’ll catch on anywhere else. But it won’t be here barring serious injuries.

If it does not work out for Terrell Thomas regarding signing with another squad, then the Giants should consider bringing him back to the organization in either an assistant coaching or developmental coaching role or possibly in the front-office in scouting or player evaluation. I don’t believe he can play for the organization any longer, but he remains an organizational keeper in my opinion.
