Earlier on Wednesday, April 2nd, the New York Giants brought in one of the last productive free agents in Robert Ayers to finish their pursuit of defensive starters during the free agency period.
With the loss of Justin Tuck, Jerry Reese needed to find a young player that could take his place, and Tom Coughlin and co. clearly were not comfortable giving Damontre Moore the starting position just yet.
Ayers will take Tuck’s No. 91 jersey in 2014 in hopes to pick up where he left off last season, where he racked up a career high in sacks with 5.5 during the Denver Broncos Super Bowl run in 2013. He was also rated the 14th best 4-3 DE last season on ProFootballFocus.
With the addition, it looks even more likely the Giants will select an offensive player in the earlier rounds of the NFL Draft in May to give Eli Manning playmakers to help him get back to his Super Bowl MVP form.
