Giants NFL Draft Needs

Philadelphia Eagles v New York Giants

The Giants are going to be busy bees on NFL Draft weekend coming up in May, as it’s a time for their coaching staff and organization to regroup after two tough seasons without the postseason. Discover the draft first rounders and their NFL betting odds here at

The club has plenty of needs, and will have eight picks in the May Draft in order to get it done. The draft this year is on the road for the first time in a long time, as the event will be in Chicago as opposed to New York.

New York has the following picks in this years NFL Draft, that is unless they try to do some wheeling and dealing on or before draft day to get or send picks to another team.

Round 1 (9), Round 2 (40), Round 3 (74), Round 4 (108), Round 5 (144), Round 6 (186), Round 7 (226), Round 7 (245).

The team has three big areas of need, with the biggest hole being at free safety. The G-Men lost Antrel Rolle, who is now a member of the Chicago Bears.

The Giants lost a great player and a team leader in Rolle, and will need to find a way to replace him. Although there are still some good FAs out there, their price tags are oddly very high this year, and the Giants would be better off drafting one early, and should look to fill that in the first two rounds.

They also need help at tight end. The team did tender Larry Donnell, but that’s about the only move they made at the position.

He is coming off a very good 2014 season, but he still had plenty of trouble holding onto the ball and was simply awful as a blocker. His talents began and ended with receiving. By adding a well-rounded tight end in the Draft, the Giants will gain some much-needed depth at the position.

They club also should look to fill in the linebacker spot, as they could use a big time impact player at that position. It was good to see the Giants ink a few free agents at the linebacker spot, but they need an elite player at the position, not just the spot players that have filled the roles lately.

With so many very impressive linebackers available, it would be a waste to pass on them. Jonathan Casillas and JT Thomas could be good signings by the Giants, but they can’t compare to the promise of Denzel Perryman, Benardrick McKinney, or Erick Kendricks, and all of those names could be around to the Giants come round two.

The Giants run defense was abysmal last season, and they definitely need to shore up that part of their team – not to mention that their running game was not so spectacular either, and that could also use quite a bit of improvement.
