TE Fells Released from Hospital After Battle with MRSA

New York Giants v Dallas Cowboys

The Giants received some good news Tuesday as tight end Daniel Fells was released from Hackensack University Medical Center after spending nearly three weeks hospitalized while battling a methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infection, James Kratch of the Newark Star-Ledger reports.

Fells had been hospitalized since Oct. 2 after contracting the infection while receiving treatment for an injured ankle and toe. It is believed Fells contracted the infection from a cortisone shot. Fells had multiple procedures done in order to fight the infection, and there were concerns his foot may have to be amputated, as well as fears the infection could spread.

However, doctors were able to get the infection under control in the past few days to the point Fells could return home. However, he will need to have a nurse in his home to continue administering antibiotics, a person familiar with Fells’ treatment said.
