Giants Get Permission to Talk to Eagles DC Jim Schwartz

The Giants have submitted a request for permission to interview Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz for head coach, and the two parties will likely meet this weekend, John Healy of the New York Daily News reports.

ESPN had initially reported Schwartz would be interviewed for the head coaching job on Sunday, but the Giants lined up six other candidates before requesting permission for Schwartz on Wednesday.

Schwartz has head coaching experience, going 29-51 in five seasons as head coach of the Detroit Lions from 2009-2013. The stint included just one winning season — which ended in a first-round playoff loss.

The Eagles’ defense ranks fourth in the NFL in yards allowed and points per game under Schwartz this season.
